While it is Google content, it isn't like Goolge put it there.
It is an Elite thing - they likely either get more money the more visible it is, or they get more money the more clicks it gets and they think that having it there will increase the click-rates.

Either way, since I don't pay for this site, I don't care what they do.

But I like Google and it isn't their fault if it is ugly - they don't do anything but serve the content that George is getting paid to distribute for them.
The position is his control, not theirs.

Maybe the ads should not be present for Platinum members. I know if I paid for membership I would be more tweaked about seeing all these ads creeping in my posts. If I hadn't paid and knew the ads would still be there if I had it wouldn't exactly encourage me to pay either.

I'm also not too clear why there's such a major add pimping here on Elite. I cruise quite a few boards with high traffic and membership and their sponsors cover enough to keep things like searches and picture posting free. Whith sponsors and the products this site actually direct markets I don't see where the cash shortfall is.
