Whats the wholesale price on 5lbs of whey?

Bullit

Colon Cowboy
Platinum
How much does a store buy a 5lb container for, and what do they sell it for?
Anyone know?

Depends which type of whey and the amount you order. I've done cost analysis for several supp companies.

You order by the pound, by the palat, or by the FTL (Full Truck Load.)

FTL is the only way to go. Your price comes down to $1.50-6.00 depending on the protein.

Protein companies have VERY poor margins. If I did a retail cost analysis on most top brands I wouldn't be seeing a 50% profit for the companies selling them - if the product contained what is actually on the label.

Hence, companies substitute the $6 raw material that the calim to use for the $1.50 raw material and make a booming profit on a no profit product.

Well sofa's post has confused me and left me with more questions than i had before i read it... as i've come to expect.

To answer your question... between $20-30... depends what kind you get though.

Whey protein isolate is better than whey protein concentrate- both are fast acting proteins.

Then you have egg protein, soy protein, etc...

You can't go wrong with why though.

Casein is a good long lasting protein for toher times besides post workout.

50% sounds pretty damn good to me.

Here's why Im asking:

rjl says he's getting it, inflavoured, for about 2.2 /lb CDN.

Well a cheap 5lb (flavored) tub is goddamn $60 here.

2.2*5 = $11 for whey.
Add some flavor (no idea what it would cost, lets say $5) = $16.
Then you gotta add tub & packaging.... but still .. its gotta be around $20/5lb tub.

Thats why I wanted to know the wholesale price. Like I said its $60 retail, so wholesale is maybe, I dunno, $40?

So sell it to em for $30, they get a $10/tub price break, you get a 50% margin.

Not bad.

Any thoughts/insight?

Sofa?

My bad... I was doing cost on raw material... not wholesale.

The standrd formula for retail is products are intended to be "keystoned." Keystoning is taking a product and the retail price is double the wholesale price.

Optimum Whey is designed to sell for $39.95 or so. Some shops sell it for $26 making a very low profit... but dealing in volume.
