What's the story w/ protein??

A friend of mine told me that his masters class at a local University tested 3 dfferent protein powers to actually see how much protein they contained. @ of them were from the US and the other was from German laboratories. The two from the US claimed to have over 30g of protein per serving, but actually had closer to 17g. The German brand actually exceeded its claim of 33g of protein. He said companies in the US can get away with this because they just have to be within aroound 25% of its label to meet US standards, while German standards specify that its products must meet or exceed the label. How much of this is true?

dont know if its true but it makes me think twice about how much protein i consume,,now i will need 4-500grms of protein a day! lol

That's interesting; one would think the US's standards to be higher than within +/- 25% of what the label claims. That's a 50% possible variation

Well that freakin' sux if you ask me. Talk about getting ripped off.

Is there anywhere we can go to research more on this subject?

dude

i dont know how far off the us companies are but the german companies are strictly regulated ,id like to know the 2 us brands ,i doubt it was designer whey or anyother top brand

I believe one brand was Met-RX, and I'll have to check on another. I think the test was actually completed last year. He wasn't positive on what % the US standard was, but was certain that German standards were much more strictly regulated. I'll see what I can find out w/o getting anyone in trouble.
