I have one or the other. I was feeling fine yesterday and when I went out last night I must have caught something. Slightly sore throat, runny nose (yellow mucus, yech) mild headache, glands feel a little swollen, maybe slightly feverish.

None of you dumbasses knows?

Comeon people, I Need to know what medicine to take.

Sinus infection = localized in sinus cavities which are under your eye sockets and in the top of your head.

Cold = more generalized sickness, often in the sinuses, throat, ears, and eyes. Can also be associated with lethargy and nausea (although sinus infections can cause nausea too from the drainage).

Sounds like more of a cold. It's not localized to your sinus cavities is it?

I'm not sure, but I think it's a cold. I get one about every 5 years.

most times with a sinus infection you will feel like all your teeth hurt

It came on instantly, that's why I'm thinking it's probably a cold.

you likely will not have a fever with a cold, but almost certainly with a sinus infection at some point. the pressure is in your cheekbones and upper jaw as well as above your eyes - pretty much anywhere on your face. headaches are common. watery eyes. a sore throat is usually secondary and doesnt typically manifest early on in the illness. the stuff you blow from your nose will go from yellow to green in color, that's when you know youve hit the big time and youre in need of a good antibiotic. if it goes untreated, it's not good at all.

Sinus infection: You will ALWAYS have discolored (yellowish or greenish) mucus when you blow your nose -- operative word, INFECTION -- frequently accompanied by facial pain under one or both eyes and/or forehead pain above one or both eyes, and even the roof of your mouth can be sore. You may or may not have a sore throat (caused by postnasal drip), low grade fever, headache, earaches, toothaches (even your eyeballs will feel like they're being pressed on) and swollen glands. You will almost definitely have difficulty breathing. Your head feels like your skull has been filled with MUD.

Cold: All the symptoms of a sinus infection but the gook that comes out of your nose is not yellow and no face/mouth pain, may or may not be accompanied by a cough or upper respiratory irritation, and your head does not feel so clogged.

Of course, you can actually have both at the same time, too.

True sinus infections aren't as common as colds, unless you have chronic sinusitis.

I never get them treated. It usually goes away in a day or 3. I have a very good immune system.

lol @ curing thyself of a bacterial infection without medication in 3 days. if you did that, then it was a cold, not likely a sinus infection, my good friend :)

My good lady, bacterial infections can be cured by your own immunity system. :)

beg to differ
a cold you have for ten days no matter
it is how you body deals with the symptoms
i always get a head cold in the early winter and i know how to alleviate the syptoms so i am comfortable but i know my energy levels are down for over a week

i get sinus infections yearly right at the start of the season esp when the trees are blooming
i know what to do with dealing with the symptoms and i know i will feel better in 5 days
but there are many things people can do to amp up there immune system
i eat lots of sulfur containing veggies....onions, garlic, ginger, nuts and cabbage family
also red/yellow/orange veggies (carotene)
i also consume massive amounts of chilis
and massive amounts of mushrooms esp shiitakes and cordyceps

did you know there is research presently on shiitakes in regards to cancer and aids

Bacterial infections are hard to kick on your own, but they can be kicked. If they become systematic you are screwed. My great grandmother died in the hills of SouthWest Virgina of an ear infection.

If its a virus or infection, you should keep the area drained with a decongestant regardless. Obstruction leads to infection.

hence the drixoral/contact-c

you got what i got..went to the doctor today,,she gave me some antibiotics,,a shot,,some codeine liquid, and some claritin-D..

bro, just go to the minor medical center nearest your house. I was in and out in 25 minutes..

my understanding of the difference b/t the cold and sinus infection is that the sinus infection is an actual bacterial infection, whereas a cold is just an irritation to the nose, sinuses, etc..

thus, colds usually are not accompanied by a fever or green snot.

Okay, you wanna be technical? :qt: A cold is a virus (rhinovirus) and sinus infections are bacterial, which is why sinus infections respond to antibiotics and colds do no.

ok, dad.. ;)

its for the coughing that makes me unable to sleep...that shit hurts so fucking bad..

I beat it once again. No dr. visit. My mother is on 3 different antibiotics for the same problem. I tell you, having a physically fit body and being a stubborn son of a bitch makes all the difference in the world.
