What's the confederate flag really mean?

I heard it wasnt a symbol of slavery, so what is it then and is our black brothers and sisters offended by such a flag????

"If any State in the Union will declare that it prefers separation" over "Union," "I have no hesitation in saying, 'let us separate.'"

--Thomas Jefferson

Simple: Rebel flag represented the CONFEDERACY....The Confederacy supported slavery, thus the confederacy supported bondage, murder, and brutality...

Hence, the Confederate flags equals all those things as well.

Besides, it doesn't really matter, blacks are winning the battle to have the remaining confederate flags removed from the few state capitols that still have the flags flying above its halls.

It's a battle well worth winning.

Abraham Lincoln dealt the most serious blow to the rights of the individual States in our Republic when he denied them the right to secede from teh union. He set us up for the Big Brother, big-government we have now in which Federal courts routinely over rule States' decisions.
Today the Confederate flag stands as a reminder of how the Constitution has been twisted by teh Federal government to suit its own goals, and how we are now a Constitutional Republic in name only. Of how we are now a Federal Government in which decisions are made by mob rule.
Slavery was an issue during teh Civil War, but it was never the issue. Why did so many free black people willingly fight for the Confederacy? Do you know how prevalent slave-owning was in teh North?

*Always beware whenever anyone offers you a "simple answer" for anything.*

Another can of worms opened.
The flag means lots of different things for many people. For the blacks that have past family members that were slaves. It is a sign of slavery. For my family it is different. My ancestors that were in the war were poor southern share croppers. The owned much of nothing. Fought for what they had. The war was fought for many reasons. The old flag was however not the flag that flew during the war. That flag was adopted in the 60's I believe. I liked the old flag and wanted to keep it but respect the views of others.

Lincoln's Views? "I am not in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office...." 9/15/1858 campaign speech
"I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery...." 3/4/1861 First Inaugural Address
"I am a little uneasy about the abolishment of slavery in this District [of Columbia]...." 3/24/1862 letter to Horace Greeley
"If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it...." 8/22/1862 letter to Horace Greeley, New York Tribune editor

The emancipation proclimation freed no slaves. Since the southern states had left the union, they would not free slaves just because the union president demanded it.

It represents far to many rednecks! Lets be proud and drive around with a confederate flag in our back window!! Freakin' idiots!
