i actually drilled out my bedside cabinet and filled it with all my working computer gear. i have a bank of external harddrives, and external dvd burner, a couple of battery chargers, digital camera and charger...all that messy crap all stuffed into the thing, making my laptop neat but very very functional.

in the other cabinet, well...the usual fun and not so fun toiletries/drugs/colognes

i don't keep a handgun in the bedroom. my kids have never opened up that little table, but if i had a handgun in there, they probably would've and i wouldn't be here today. when the little girl was 4, she fired a single shot at the range with my handgun (my hands over hers). the trigger pull was too much for her tiny fingers, so i had to pull it with her. if the gun would've been next to the bed, however, she would've found it and probably would've been able to pull the trigger.

plus, why keep a gun next to the bed if you're dating/married? what if your significant other flips out in the middle of the night and you wake up with the barrel between your eyes? bad idea to keep it there, if you ask me.
