i've seen stuff like.. pro recover, designed for drinking right after workout.

What's good?

Am I missing out with just food and a protein shake?

Proglycosyn Tubs - The Ultimate Post Workout Recovery Formula
Vanilla Cream

PROGLYCOSYN™ is an advanced 50/50 protein - carbohydrate formulation designed specifically to accelerate post-exercise protein and glycogen synthesis by supplying a unique formulation of dextrose, whey protein isolate, and anabolic nutrients. While glycogen synthesis is important and dependent on an adequate supply of post-recovery dietary carbohydrate, the provision of an adequate supply of dietary protein is just as important to ensure optimal post-exercise muscle protein synthesis - a process that requires a constant supply of dietary amino acids (1).

25 grams Whey Protein Isolates, 25 grams Dextrose, 2.5 grams L-Glutamine, 1 gram L-Arginine, 0.5 grams Magnesium Creatine, 1 gram Creatine Monohydrate, 100 mcg Chromium as Polynicotinate
2.5 LBS

When you look at the science and human biology it just makes sense. That is why you see it on Ronnie Colmans kithen counter in his DVD.

Check it out on www.snac.com

Whey + a fast acting carb is all you need. I've used dextrose in the past, some use maltodextrin.

Lately I've been using waxy maize starch, then whey with a small amount of dextrose 15 minutes later. Alot of people on some of the other forums have been praising the waxy maize starch - it's the stuff in Vitargo. You can buy it in bulk for much cheaper. PM me if you are interested in where to order, since I don't think it's allowed to post the site here.

There is nothing special about Proglycosyn, and I could give a shit if Ronnie Coleman uses it or not. As you can see, it's whey isolate + dextrose, with a few extras - l-glutamine and creatine. The debate over the usefulness of L-glutamine has been beaten into the ground, but I think it's safe to say that it's no longer supported like it once was. Glutamine peptides are the thing now, apparantly - just look at all of the supporters of G-covery. Also, many will tell you that creatine monohydrate is a waste and that CEE (creatine ethyl ester) is the way to go.

I won't tell you what you should or shouldn't use, but I think you should be aware that you can find quality whey isolates very reasonably priced, and dextrose is dirt cheap. The fact that SNAC charges $52 for 20 servings of Proglycosyn is completely absurd.

BTW, dgee, have any of your 3 posts been about something other than Proglycosyn? Just wondering...

JKurz1, you were one of the ones arguing for low GI carbs postworkout in the past, right?

I know people still can't agree on which is better, high vs. low GI. Actually I guess the argument is whether can low GI do the same thing as high GI in a postworkout situation, without the forced insulin spike.

I gotta say, there is definitely some evidence for both sides of the argument.

definte argues from both sides....however more and more and more are coming over to the low carb side and loving it....no crash feeling and recovering just as quickly..plus, it's 10x better for your health. we werent meant to ingest pure sugar....look what happens to our heart and teeth when we do.

I still am medium to low....highest id go would be rice cakes and cold cereal...I like cold cereal and a thick shake...easy to digest and all organic whole grain or oat flour cereal, so it's good.....it's the fing splenda by the gallon i need to ditch..and the sf gum!
