what would you say to teens

So what is the purpose. Most teens lay around and give their lives to media all summer (Video Games, internet, tv, movies). Which I don't totally think is horrible. But I believe we are created to do so much more with our time. If you were a teen, what would you do diferently with your summer time off.

Ages are 13-17 boys and girls.

what are the ages? lots of difference in messages you'ld give to 13 than to 19 year olds imo. girls/ boys, both? some specifics please....

* Go volunteer
* Go to summer school to be prepared for next year
* Visit old people
* Go to sports camp
* Go to any camp
* Paint the house
* Do some work around the house prefer outside
* Go help your grand parents with stuff if they live close enough
* Babysit somebody's kids or pets

Be a counselor at a day camp for younger kids
Job
Chores in exchange for a little vacation the kids can agree on

We just spent the past two days getting our lil girl off to camp for a week. Adventure camp-learning to scuba dive, doing the zipline , rafting, etc, etc. I wish they had all this stuff when I was a kid!

She'll come home for a week then off she goes to Math and Science camp. Yeah, she's a beautiful nerd girl.Then.....We are sending her down to Huntsville, Ala. for Space Camp. God, she's reallllly a nerd huh? lol Sorry, she's into rockets and all that space kinda stuff.


I think it's up to the mom's and dad's to get their child involved in summer fun IMO. It would have been really easy to send Bri off to the sitter for the summer. but what fun is that?

Granted, not everyone can afford to do what we can, but there are other options for kids. Have them do some chairty work at a local hospice, etc. THERE are tons of places where a teen can keep busy and learn about real life! More teens need to get out of their comfort zone and see the real world.

I wish I was still younger and had entire summers to do with my time as I pleased. I'd be outdoors as often as possible playing sports and having fun. The message probably wouldn't have reached me then, but I sure wish someone had told me that one day I wouldn't have the luxury of wasting that time and that I'd wish I had done more fun things. You've got the rest of your life to be inside in front of a computer on gorgeous days such as this...don't hurry the proccess along before it it's no longer a matter of choice.

I loved this. Someone kinda said their are a lot of things going on. I know this but I love to get other people's opinions and ideas. It makes me look better while I speak, haha. Everybody is into different things, and so I like to hear what other ideas their are.

I was thinking the same thing as well.

I say let them do what they want. If they grow up with mom and dad sitting inside on the computer, tv, etc. all day then thats what they will do. If mom and dad are always outside then there going to be more inclined to be out and active. Sign them up for a summer sports team or something, thats fun. Or try and get them into a good gym and compete in BBing or powerlifting or strongman.

Have them get involved volunteering their time at the local shelter for abused women and their kids.

This is an EXCELLENT experience for both boys AND girls for obvious reasons.

I use to spend the summers playing ball for the local recreation department and going to sports camps and the rest of the time I was having fun with friends at sleep overs and on the beach. Life was much easier than and we didn't have all the drugs and know the things that kids know now.
