What should I eat before my weights workout?

I am trying to find out what works best for me.. carbs/ no carbs... even if I have some carbs earlier in the day, say oatmeal at breakfast....

this will be about 15 min before my lifting workout.

Apple?
cottage cheese?
granola?

I really don't know.. I have a protein shake ASAP after my weights workout,

My last meal is about 2:00-2:30, I usually train at about 4:30..

What should I eat right before?

I personally do not like training on a full stomach. I can handle an apple. I say eat whatever you can stomach & keep seeing what works for you. Just don't be confused thinking that food you are eating 15 minutes prior to your workout will be digested that quick into a surge of energy (energy = digested food, that can take hours/days for different foods & the person eating it), unless it's sugar or something & gives you that initial hyper reaction.

I remember reading (forgive me if I misquote here) that your body will have to burn the calories you just ate first anyway so use that when deciding on a preworkout meal.

Are you eating b/c you are hungry? Or just trying to get another meal in?

hi Bunny,

I'm eating because

i feel I should eat something small... and when i do eat i have more energy for my workout... or maybe i just think i do?

maybe i will hold off in it and see how it goes

Try it both ways. :) Try sipping on some gatorade before and during training if you want an immediate usable energy source, it's pure glucose and doesn't need to be broken down from a 'carb' to glucose.

I like to have some peanuts about 1 hour beforehand or so.....gives me some energy....

For me, a handfull of almonds etc with a good sustainable fat source works best...it wont throw your blood sugar off(you cannot burn bidyfat when insulin levels are high) and the fat gives a good burn vs amount of food ingested
