What is your job and how did you get it?

How long did it take you to get it? What training have you had for it, such as college, etc. Are you happy? I wonder what everyone on here truly does for a living.

:) I'm a data / systems manger. I crash servers and write code and bitch about stuff that deals with a 1 and a 0.

Right now I work at Met-life and hate it. I start a new
job Monday. I'll be in sales. I got that job by posting
my resume on line. I think I will be happy I'm going to
be paid $600 a wk salary for 8 wks training. After
my salary drops to $400 a wk + comm, a $300 a month
car allowance, and there are all kinds of incentives.
There average sales man does about $3,000 - $5,000
a month. The guy who is training me has been in the
business for 30 years.

lets see, Ive been a sophmore in college for 10 years now (havent been back since I was 22) Not certified in shit. But old job was a sys admin, and a damn fine one I might add. Now I do a little bit of everything, Novell, NT, Mainframe sys admin, but mainly desktop support. All of this self taught or ojt with one of the if not the worlds largest financial instatutions. Ive been here for 8 yrs 5 of which have been on the tech side. Its kinda backwards here, the sys admin and mainframe admin jobs here are more entry level positions and pay less than the desktop side. "Desktop support" REALLY does not describe what all we do. Any and ALL sys issues, mainframe or other, flow through us. The sys issue responsibilities were taken away from the sys admin, they now push paper and grant access, which you could train a monkey to do and set it all up on a script but then 4 people would loose their jobs. And yes, I love my job, Im very happy here, I get paid well, all male dept, fun, VERY flexable hrs, we have a gym, great benefits, 3 wks vaca, plus holidays and personal time, 2 more yrs and I get 4 wks vaca... cant complaine a damn bit.

product manager at a major software company... pay is great, benefits are great...

how'd i get it, i started 3 years ago in support at a much smaller company which got bought out last year...
cha-ching... i could retire on my stock options alone :)

I was VP of Operations for a telecommunication high speed connectivity company,ie fiber optics and high speed cabling. I had no life so requested that I move into sales or quit. They happily obliged, but I spend as much time in operations as I do sales. I make great money especially for my age, but I hate my job.

I work @ S & P doing financial research and reporting..I love it here. Been here since I graduated in jan. Got the job by posting my resume on hotjobs.com

Insurance broker.....life, health, disability, etc..... don't do personal or commercial property tho.

After baseball career was over in 95 money was going out real fast and none was coming in....except wives salary......anyway answered an ad in the paper and got promised the world.....had to take a 2.5 day jam session class then take the test....got my license......4 brokerage houses later I said FUCK them why should I work for them and went on my own almost 3 years ago. Now I am the state mgr for a marketing firm out of Tulsa and they give me free reign to do what I want here in AZ and any other state that they are licensed to do business in which is about 30 at last count.

So I can sell any product I want and they don't care as long as I throw business their way.....which I do because the gave me a big ass contract and I give nice fat ass bonuses to my agents to write that product also.

Happy? Well like any other thing.....trials and tribulations but for the most part I am happy. I work when I want and how much I want. Usually take at least 6 weeks off per year, since that is what my wife gets....can't let her have off and me be stuck working right? Make great money and get to coach my kids baseball, basketball, and whatever else teams that they want to play and have yet to work on a weekend in 6 years.

HR Consultant for Motorola . I was working in Marketing at a leading IT firm before this. A fellow board member got me this job. They actually called me BEFORE I sent them my resume. It took a total of two days for them to hire me. I am VERY happy here. I get to do some traveling and five weeks vacation starting immediately, 5 personal days, very flexible time schedule, stock, the building has a rec room with video games, billiard tables, 4 cafeterias, two gyms, swimming pool. I will not be leaving here anytime soon.
