What is the longest time spent........

at any one job that you have had? Just wondering because I have been on this one job for almost 15 years now and can't imagine even thinking of starting over but burnt out at the same time. :worried:

almost 15 years for me

Changing jobs is a great way to re-charge the batteries. I have been on this one for 8 yrs which is my longest but can certainly see the good in changing soon.

If you think you need to change, it is likely you needed to for years. When you get to the new job you will say - why did I wait so long.

Good luck!!

12 or more years... but that was a long time ago. I'm in between jobs now for 16 years.

It was "comfortable" but I did despise some things from time to time. You can usually tell the people who've been around the job for a while. They're the ones who complain the most without worrying if the boss sees it. They may even welcome it. lol They're so sick of "the bullshit." so to speak.

burnout sucks. try doing something else on the side you like... when you can figure out a way to make $$ at it, ditch the insurance.

There are so many advantages to me staying. I live like 5 mins from here, my son's school is even closer, I like the people here and I am one of the top paid compared to some of the other offices. I hate change but I do want to get out of this lull. For those that don't know, I am in the insurance biss and things are what they use to be pre katrina and I don't think they ever will be...not just here but all offices. I am a lucky few that gets a bonus on retention/renewals. If my bonuses where base just on new buisness then I would be in trouble!

Also, if you work in a pension based company, you're pretty set. That's incentive enought to stay sometimes. SOMETIMES.

I'd be doing this til I'm old and grey sista!

People who for the sole reason of their pension are almost dead already. Work needs to be stimulating and rewarding in order for you to go home fealing like you accomplished something.

Most your life you will spend working - why would the few short years of retirement determine where you will do that?

Agreed, you need a job/carreer that you like/love. But there are people who've done something for 13...15 years and stopped. Some longer. If I was at 17 years and neeeded 3 more to get a pension, I'd stay at the job until I got it and move on to another job.

I'm certainly not saying to START a job that you don't like because in 20 years you'll have a pension.

Also, not everyone has a "carreer". We'd all love to, but there are some working stiffs in the crowd. My MIA cleans hotel rooms for a living. Is that her carreer? That's what puts food on her table and pays her kids' schools. I'm so happy for her to be able to do that. I think she's been doing it for 18 years. In two years, she's getting nice pension and will get a part time job doing whatever she loves after that.

I'm sure she hated every year of her job.But if you ask her, she'll tell you she liked her LIFE. 'Job', 'carreer', and 'life' don't have to be the same.

Up until Katrina it was stimulating, making a sell was like being on a drug, I got a rush with the more I wrote...bonus check help me to have that feeling!! Right now ANY company in my field is so limited in what we can write. My groove has been taken away. I was an awesome sales person and could cross sell just about anyone...I am not allowed the same freedom I once had. :worried:
It would be almost impossible to go into a whole nother field and make what I make so I feel stuck!

been here going on 6-1/2years and these people are like family. I want to leave and expand but I keep finding reasons to stay.

I am hoping that when Feisty helps start up this other buisness next door I can get my feet wet in that and maybe branch out that way.

Frisky needs to stay in her industry. Not enough ladies there so the demographics are on her side.

Sometimes it is very hard work though!!

When you come to London.. I'll take you with me...

I deal with people to but usually just dumb asses...hate to say it but it is true. Very few of them are a pleasure to work with.

I've had the same job description for most of the last 10 yrs and another job description the prior 10 yrs, but I seem to be a start-up hound... I'd love to find a job w/ some duration but it hasn't happened -- longest I've been at one company is 4 yrs.
