So i wear sandals, and bam, my shins kill me. Any form of sandals, for any period of time, and my legs feel like shit automatically. I got them bad my first year of college from where these big doc marten sandals and walking up hills at school, which makes sense. But what i dont understand, is that was 2 years ago, and I can go a long period without wearing sandals, and put them on, and bam i have shin splints again hurtin like a bitch. I want them to go away. Am i just cursed by the sandal god or what?

Man, that sucks. I bet you had to walk up that ass of a hill on the Vols campus, too, huh?

I get them really bad when I run. I hate it...didn't get them until a few months ago, though...

this should help get rid of shin splints

Hey guys,

This is my first post! Wow, and to think it would have been to one of the ladies!!!

Anyway, I'm a personal trainer and have had great success with getting rid of shin splints with clients after helping them strengthen them. What happens is the shins aren't as strong as the calves and as they get tired they allow the foot to "slap" down on the floor which usually makes it even worse! Anyway, to strengthen them, put your heel on a step so your front foot hangs off, then either have someone give you resistance with both hands or get a dumbbell to put across the top of your foot (prob. at least 20 lbs). Go til you can't go any more! Another thing you can do is balance on one foot and close your eyes (yes, I'm serious!). This makes your body use its proprioceptive responses of the muscles (mainly around the ankle in this case). Do each side for at least 30 seconds. Hope it works for you, too!
