check this site www.ishkur.com and on the left hand column click on the iskur's guide to electronic music

the descriptions for the genres should be taken with a grain of salt as some of them are intentionally way off... but the sound clips matched to the genres/subgenres match perfectly.

one.

they're looking for Emjay on this site ? lol She lives 2 blocks from me 4 months a year (the rest in Ottawa)... Very nice person btw.

Trashy is probably some local radio/club DJ that he heard and likes. I hate when people refer to anything electronic as "techno"...
Anyway, here's my list:

Techno: Marco V, Psycho Bitch (local chicago DJ), Mauro Picotto
Trance: Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren
Progressive (house/trance): Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Steve Lawler, Pete Gooding, John Digweed
Club (house/trance/tech): Judge Jules, DJ Jean
DnB: Panacea, Dara, Deiselboy
Hardcore: Delta 9
House: Danny Tenaglia

I'm probably leaving out some of my fav DJs that I just aren't commin into my head right now.

I hate it when people dissect the shit out of everything. I was listening to dance music or 'Electronica' in 1987, when it was just called dance music. Now someone produces a slightly different sound and everyone labels it with a new term. It's all dance music. That's why the scene has faltered, because it has splintered off into various guises and everyone slags off the different genres.

Who cares, as long as it's not Bruce Springstein or that grunge rock crap that's so big these days. if it has a beat and you can dance to it, then it's dance music, whether it's techno, Drum and Bass, acid, psy trance, house, progressive, whatever.

I tend to disagree with that because music in general is dance music, and in order make someone understand what you are talking bout at the moment, you do have to come up with a a genre, but when it comes to subgenres, that shit is just lame. when I hear someone say dance music, I think of lame dance music that is played at the gym or at rosarito beach on spring break, not quality underground house or dnb, know what I mean?
