What is the best tasting protein drink?

why do you hate it so much? what does it taste like? does it do something funky to your stomach? just wonderin...:D for some reason i got it pictured as tasting like strawberry soft serve ice cream with oatmeal.....and i'm probably definitely way off on that vision

one of my friend is an optimum nutrition um...what do you call it....seller....consultant....thought about trying the stuff he's got, but i don't want to get that much of something and not be able to stomach it...

Well for one I wouldn't recommend myoplex, since it's filled with sugar and it'd be better to drink a protein shake and eat a good carb.

As far as taste, once you realize they aren't delicious great tasting treats, the better off you'll be. Unless you actually do like it, then maybe you'd look forward to it. But personally I just drink it for what it is. Although I do like some of them to a certain degree, I realize it'll never be ice cream or a milkshake or hershey's chocolate milk.

Seriously though a regular protein drink with two scoops of powder isn't more than probably 1/2 - 3/4 cup of liquid, it doesn't take much to down it.

If you did want a full meal replacement drink like myoplex, I'd recommend Labrada Lean Body for Her over myoplex anyday though. I guess you could describe myoplex as drinking cake batter.

 I genuinely like my protein shake. I mean no nose-pinching, no gagging, no chugging....

I just got it a couple of days ago and, like the protein bars, I have to hold myself back from making myself one when I feel the need for a shot of chocolate.

I suggest ya'll try the Optimum Whey chocolate if you don't like the one you are currently using. There really isn't anything offensive about it!

That's another thing...egg whites....oh my do they screw with my stomach.....eggs period.......it's like major "protein" farts......ewwwwwwwwww. almost like being lactose intolerant,
ICK, same here! They don't upset my stomach, but they do make those oh-so-lovely-farts!

KBgrl, quick question. Do you mean you put *raw* egg whites in with oatmeal & cook it all (in the microwave) or chop up hard-boiled egg whites into oats?

I just hard boil my eggs, peel & yank out the yolk, sprinkle with sale & pepper & eat. I used to have to do them like a "shooter" too, but now I don't mind. Just got used to it.

VDL - Glad you like Optimum :). What was that pre-mixed protein drink you had & was it good?

Myoplex.... I don't know about their shakes but I know the bars are too high in carbs & WAY too high in sugar. I'd rather get my carbs from fruit & healthy grains & eat low-carb shakes & bars. I avoid sugar like the "white death" that it is on non-cheat days!

Myoplex

Yes...the original product line did have quite a bit of carbs and sugars....especially the bars...but these were the "Deluxe" shakes and bars....

I use the "lite" protein shake mixes....2 g of sugar....and the "low carb" protein shake mixes have none and only 9 grams of carbs total.

both taste great...and u can make them thin or thick....i like the taste so i go for the thickness....and definitely does not have "cake batter" taste.....

I've tried tons of shakes and these are the only ones i like...MetRx is nasty...very much the cake batter consistency....and Twin Labs tasted foul....horrible aftertaste....

i'm drinking mine as meal replacement...and it is calculated in my total intake of protein, carbs, fat, sugar ect for each day...

and i get extra "whole food" carbs by adding the oatmeal....my trainer set up my nutritional program and this is what we use for my first meal each day.....especially as i am usually drinking it after doing cardio on empty stomach....

I like the vanilla designer but I add a 1/2 cup of coffee, some ice and throw it in the blender. Not bad and besides the coffee giving it a better taste it gets me going in the morning! You could also add it to oatmeal with a little extra water, that might help get the oats down easier.

I also like the myoplex low carb ready to serve which is much thinner than the regular.....chocolate for me please. These have 4g of carbs and minimal sugar but the protein is pretty high, 20g.

Different flavors

If you like the taste of strawberry and banana mixed in one protein powder, I highly recommend VPX strawberry/banana.

It is a 100% whey protein isolate protein powder, not a MRP, and mixed instantly.

If you like orange, then try their Orange Julia, or your can try their Fruit Punch flavor, they are all good.

Now, if you want crazy, and want to add a lot of MCT, creatine, and a mixture of proteins, and you like the taste of ROOT BEER,
then you have to try Milk Muscle's, root beer flavored protein powder. This stuff is out there from a nutrient profile, about 1/3 of the calories are from fat in the form of MCT.

You have no idea until you mix this stuff with a little ice milk, how good a protein shake can taste.

The only downside, is that root beer flavor does not mix well with fruit flavors, so you better like root beer.

I like carb-free isopure. The vanilla is tolerable but I like chocolate better. I've heard good things about the tropical variety packs too. 0 carb, 200, calories, no sugar....pricey but I think it's worth it.

I'm quite pleased to learn that I'm not the only one who has to slam my shakes. KB- I'm with you on the nose plugging too. I love taking 2 scoops of vanilla isopure, 12 oz cold water, 1/2 banana, and 1 Tbsp natural pb in the blender. That is actually really good.

As for protein bars, I bought a whole variety of them the first time I bought whey protein. The pictures and flavors sounded so great. I was thinking they'd be like candy bars. Yeah right. There is NO mistaking most of those bars for anything resembling candy. I made myself eat them all just because they were so damn expensive. Now I just broil a couple of pounds of chicken breasts at a time, throw it in my fridge in gladware with some veggies, and take those to work with me rather than force myself to gag down some nasty cardboard/sawdust tasting protein bar.
