what is the BEST internet security program?

My friend at work had a phone bill for £700 (that's about $1100 for those who can't be bothered to work it out), that was a bill for 2 months.
He thinks it is to do with these auto-dialers and spyware, he asked for my advice on internet security, I personally don't have any problems and I don't have any security on my computer, any opinions on what program to go with?

use firebird mozilla. internet explorer, microsoft outlook and dl'ing and running unscrupulous shit account for probably 95% of the infections out there.

I am looking for firewall hardware, I have no confidence in Windows firewall and not very much in Nortons Internet Security program.


My peeve is big brother spying on me, stuff has gotten old and I tire of having my computer settings changed. I know he can blow through those programs in a few seconds.

The hardware will not stop an unlimited budget....I want to know when the hacking is taking place. I'll just find something else to do then.
