what is half-life for androgel?

tomp

I am putting put on androgel Monday. Does anyone know the hal-life (peak level) of it? I need to know so I know when to get my prescription filled. I was on injectable TRT using Cypionate in the past and the doc said it was 2 weeks. I forgot to ask him how long it was for androgel so if anyone knows, I would appreciate it. Thanks

If I remember right. Androgel stays effective in your system for about three days. But you do need to use it daily to keep levels stable.

Yep. I takes to the skin best of any topical I used and it works! You can feel it kick in.

However, you won't see powerful visual results (muscle), just a slight improvement. You'll feel better. My experience says that until you are getting 500 mg + per/week, you won't get big.

I have this Androgel stuff coming out my EARS! Just went to count...have 25-bottles of the 1%. Guess I'm not as good as I thought with my routine of taking it.

My Endo, called me on my last cycle--said *NO WAY* are you taking as prescribed and your levels still this low. Said, no no, last appointment was about 10-months ago--about a month later ran out. Been about 9-months. Levels dropped back to basement.

FYI---The "National Institute Health" (Government Agency)
Says:10-100 minutes (that's just too unbelievable).

------------
A daily application of AndroGel 5 g, 7.5 g, or 10 g contains 50 mg, 75 mg, or 100 mg of testosterone, respectively, to be applied daily to the skin's surface. Approximately 10% of the applied testosterone dose is absorbed across skin of average permeability during a 24-hour period.
The active pharmacologic ingredient in AndroGel is testosterone. Testosterone USP is a white to practically white crystalline powder chemically described as 17-beta hydroxyandrost-4-en-3-one.

Metabolism: There is considerable variation in the half-life of testosterone as reported in the literature, ranging from 10 to 100 minutes. Testosterone is metabolized to various 17-keto steroids through two different pathways. The major active metabolites of testosterone are estradiol and DHT. DHT binds with greater affinity to SHBG than does testosterone. In many tissues, the activity of testosterone depends on its reduction to DHT, which binds to cytosol receptor proteins. The steroid-receptor complex is transported to the nucleus where it initiates transcription and cellular changes related to androgen action. In reproductive tissues, DHT is further metabolized to 3-α and 3-β androstanediol.

10-100 minutes??? I find that * UNBELIEVABLY SHORT*--but it's there in the quote.

Also, check out the "common man" boards. See what they are saying.
Many (even "older" guys)--claim they are droping weight, better mood, more mass, etc.

Finally, I have a friend, his wife is rep for Testim. Before I went in (to find out if needed T-Gel or not. Was Questioning her on the "what ifs" for inclusion criteria. (she's a Top Tier Pharm Rep by the way). She says she tells her Doctors there really is no "baseline" to look for in someone.

Essentially, tells Doctors if a patient is "Presenting with Symptoms"--their levels are not already not too high to begin with, it's a "can't really hurt"---to try it. Situation.

Normal T's are 270-1070 ng/dL (9-38 nmol/L)

Because you're a performance Athlete, say hypothetically, take a summer off. Your "baseline" might drops to 500-It's STILL IN RANGE--however it's NOT NORMAL--for your body.
So, that's when you go see an Endo-PRESENT with..(*cough*)--symptoms--Zero Libido, Low Level Blues, Always Exhausted, etc.

2nd EX==Her Husband (my friend)--was a College Football (starter)--Athlete--He's still in same shape today. (minus the knee surgeries).

Example she gave. Husband could have been in the 600's in College---as his body retrats to "basline" His could be 350 day. Exact same example. It's within range of 270-1070 ng/dL (9-38 nmol/L)---however if he's feeling like shit due to low T's--they'll prescribe.

------------
And to thelion2005--just gotta say is as I have a big heart --PLEASE--Please PLEASE--do extensive research before taking T-Gel.

For a man, the tests they keep an eye on is the PSA/Prostrate counts.

For a woman (who simply sleeps with a man taking it--ie. "accidental contact"---there is all SORTS of stuff can go wrong--all kinds of Cancers, etc. It's none of my business to tell you what to do (hell, you know more about stuff than I do)--however having a Testim rep as a friend and just being the Dork that loves to research the stuff I pollute my body with----this stuff is NOT to monkey with for women.

By the way (and I SWEAR--this is a respectful--reply/"advice"--For a Woman and increasing Testosterone (respectfully said)--You "Load up" on Sex--you'll be a GORILLA before you know it!

Seriously (I realize this thread is old)---but the First Mixed Martial Arts woman as part of her training, says she "Loads UP on Sex"---to increate her Testosterone Levels.

"Loading up on Sex" sure sounds like more fun that Russian Roulette with Cancer, ya know! *grin*

Yes, look at the Pic..She's built like a freaking ROCK--probably 6% body fat.

My Eurologist warned me against using Vaseline/moisturizer on the skin I apply my androgel to. He said one of his patients was using vaselilne/mosturizer and then applying the androgel and he was testing at levels over 1300 ng/dL. As soon as he stopped using moisturizer his test levels dropped back down to normal, in the 350 to 750 range.

half life for test cyp is 8 days. 2 hours sounds about right for a half life for the transdermal once it is absorbed. But the thing is it could sit on your skin for hours before being absorbed. And sbsorption rates vary greatly, and tend to decline with regular use.

Elaborate ??

I hear great things about a product called Phlojel it is specially made to transport medicines, etc transdermally at a much higher absorption rate. I know two individuals that have increased there total T levels by almost 50% when they added it to their androgel. I have a tub of it waiting for me. I'm going to start it up with my Fortesta (Tgel). I will keep you guys posted on my T levels on my next bloodwork, if anyone is interested?

Almost any mosturizer will improve absorbtion of transdermals. As will will applying after showering.

Moisturizing lotions can increase transdermal absorption of the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxacetic acid across hairless mouse skin.

Abstract

Moisturizing lotions can be an effective treatment for occupationally induced dry skin. These compounds are designed to be hygroscopic and retain water to keep the stratum corneum hydrated, while at the same time enhancing the horny layer to prevent increases in transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Skin hydration levels, however, are known to influence barrier properties. The purpose of this work was to compare skin moisture levels induced by four commercially available moisturizing lotions with their capacity as transdermal penetration enhancers using the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) as a model chemical. Further, the effect of moisturizing the skin after washing with sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) on transdermal absorption was determined. Skin moisture levels were also measured noninvasively and were correlated to penetration enhancement. Hairless mouse skin was pretreated with commercially available moisturizing lotions either with or without SLS washing and in vitro permeability studies were performed with the herbicide 2,4-D. The data demonstrate that pretreatment with three of the four lotions tested increased the transdermal absorption of 2,4-D as evidenced by cumulative penetration or faster lag times (p < 0.05). Skin moisture levels correlated with the penetration enhancement capabilities of the lotion. Washing the skin with 5% SDS increased the transdermal absorption of 2,4-D (p < 0.05) and application of moisturizing lotions increased the absorption further. In summary moisturizing lotions may influence transdermal penetration of the skin, with the more effective moisturizers having a greater effect on 2,4-D absorption.
