what are barebones systems and what other things will i need to add to it to make it work?

Barebones are normally just case, processor, motherboard, keyboard and mouse. You need all your own drives and memory.

case, power supply, motherboard w/builtin video and maybe sound...sometimes a cpu w/o fan is thrown in.

you are going to need software, OS, memory, HD, video card, modem, etc etc... better spend the extra $200 and get everything bro.

case, power supply, motherboard and processor.

Some will have an integrated video card and wireless adapter. Some will come with ram some won't.

Barebones systems are for people who plan to carry forward some bits from their previous system, while upgrading the processor and system board. It's for people who already have a good monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, drives, and other peripherals, and who already own the software they need so they won't need the Office bundle that comes with most new systems.

i own all sorts of software, xp pro, office, all that good stuff... but it sounds like a bitch ragardless... oh well, i'll spend 200 on a new computer (i think it's stolen but what do i care).

You're in Detroit, everything is stolen. :worried:

You might want to chain yourself to a wall to make sure they don't steal you. ;)

This is the best explanation of what I had in mind, Blitz. With a barebones system it's usually like a chinese menu, you add the components you want or need.

I've even seen them called barebones and they have sound and graphics cards.
