what happens if you consume no protein?

i know this is off topic, but i have a friend who is looking for studies or papers on what happens to your body if you don't consume protein. if any of you know of any it would be cool if you posted em here or gave a link. thanks people!

Well. Your body gonna be super efficient with regards to protein digestion. Thats for sure.

TRY IT for a week and lets see what happens! YEH! Do it for the team! Consume 0 protein for a week!

Almost everything has protein in it.

Assuming an otherwise healthy diet, I don't think much would happen. You wouldn't gain any muscle, but short term the body doesn't require all that much protein.

Uh..He didn't say anything about wanting to try it, you illiterate fool, he just said his friend was looking for some papers about it.
 
I have tried it out.If one(natural athlete) does not consume any protein and stops training,mass *does not* decrease in the short term.However I found my bf going down because I get most of my calories from protein,and reduced protein in my case meant reduced calories.

Fascinating. What if he doesn´t stop training? What if he:
1. just does cardio
2. lifts bb style(60 to 80% 1repmax)
3. lifts for power (over 80%)

Don´t expect you to know. Just thinking...
 
It would obviously have more impact if he's training as a bodybuilder then if he's lifting for power in which case potentiating the CNS can still be achieved. You can rule out hypertrophy if you don't consume protein.

really though:
For just health many doctors are having success prescribing a low protein diet. Protein metabolism isn't the greatest thing for your body...it generates free radicals and it draws a lot of water out of your body (to excrete urea byproducts).
