What happened to Microsoft?

They are sucking harder than ever before these days. XP was pretty much the last decent thing they've done.

-Xbox 360 consoles are built like shit
-Vista sucks and is buggy as hell
-Over priced, underwhelming Zune
-Games for Windows Live is a joke at this point, and has caused me to say the hell with pc gaming. more here
-Internet Explorer 7 isn't nearly as good as Firefox

To top it all off, they want to charge Xbox Live users for additional game content required for up-to-date multiplayer matches on top of the $50/yr for the service to begin with.

It's clear they only care about profit. I am hesitant to buy another Microsoft product again if this trend continues.

Hopefully the new chipset for the 360 this fall will help to redeem their status to at least decent.

Why are they in it then? Greed one way or the other.

I'm done with Gates and all of his shitty programmers. I am now the proud owner of a Mac. Thats how I roll from now on.

xbox live rocks i can do so much shit with it.

ms sucks cuz the good programmers of the 90s have all left. replaced by morons. why do u think gates has to go to washington to lobby for more visas so he can bring over much better indian developers? he knows how shitty his products have been lately.

i bet half his development team spends half their day on myspace.

Exactly. You start betraying consumers' trust by cutting corners, not enough testing, etc. and releasing what is hyped to be the greatest thing since sliced bread but turns out to be garbage. Yes I understand people are in business to make money, but you also need a deeper philosophy than that if you want to stay in business.

true.. unless you're microsoft.. because really the only way they will go out of business is if the world ends.. so I think they are pretty much safe..

ms has a monopoly and billions. lol thinking ms needs money from measly customer support calls.

no software co. has found a way to make good revenue from customr support, except corporate ones.

I love my XP, love my 360, love my xbl, plus half my software still wont run on a mac or I would own one .... Linux for the win ....

Oh yeah, in my first programming job I worked for a company that had a custom EDI solution running in 300+ facilities and most of those paid the $200.00 a year unlimited support contract, I supported it as one of my duties. It was bullet proof and in four years I had three issues, one was a company that didn't maintain a record of their login information which took five minutes to solve. The other two were programming issues which took all of twenty hours to troubleshoot and re-program. Javaguru was making $20.00 an hour plus profit sharing but support didn't count for profit sharing.

the average consumer will spend $0 on customer support for their software (but pay thousands to fix their car and get butt-fucked, that's funny)

ms knows this. they gain nothing by 'introducing bugs' in their o/s.

ms has to keep developing. they know all it takes is one enterprising entrepreneur in india, to get visions in his head, recruit 50,000 indian developers, and boom - come up with a powerful o/s altenrtive in 2 years. putting ms in real danger.

gates knows this. so it keeps him developing better and better o/s's. vista ai't too bad. but i ain't replacing my hardware just to run it. as every new o/s requires.

btw: within 20 years, expect all of ms's development offices to move to india. all that wil be left in the us will be administrative and executive shit.

I've been thinking of leveraging my project management skills and developing relationships with some Indian companies as sub-contractors and just manage the projects.

pretty much the future.

gates know the future of ms applications cant be done by generation dumb, and generation dumber that's coming up.

even the last 9 out of 10 people i've hired in my it dept; have been foreigners.

today's young americans are stupid myspace addicted attention whore idiots.

LMAO!! You're probably right, wait, you are right. It sucks that MS is practically buying out the videogame industry now too, but have yet to fix their problems with unreliable hardware a year and a half into its lifecycle. Perhaps it's merely collateral damage in their bigger picture.

Imagine if Microsoft developed software for weapons programs with their current reliability track record, lolol.

yea but the only reason a company would want to stay in business is to make more money. a company is little more than an entity created to gain as much profit as possible. Some companies try to achieve by leading their industry in product quality and customer service, while others focus on marketing or low prices...but they all just wanna generate revenue. only a small percentage of companies actual care about the well being of society or anybody in it.
