What exercise puts the most strain on your elbow?

By strain I mean pressure as opposed to shearing force...so lateral DB raises wouldn't qualify but dips would.

And I'm going to go with dips on this one, or maybe bench press.

Well being that I'm nursing an elbow injury right now, I can tell you what hurts the most. If I warm up properly, benching and military pressing is not that bad. But even with proper warm up, Skullcrushers and Tricep Pushdowns hurt like fuck.

I've also read several times that skullcrushers can be hard on the elbows once a person is up to using quite a bit of weight.

skulls i do them, at the right angle, they feel pretty nice for me... however, triceps extentions in a upright, sitting position (weight going behind your head) kills my elbows...

oh, and military press. i don't even do this, can't ever get it to feel right

Any type of freeweight tricep extention. Skull crushers and dumbell extentions especially. I warm-up with rope pressdowns beforehand and it lessens the pain sometimes, but not always.

I am surprised that so many people also haev problems with their elbows.

I never had one until I shattered my left radial head and had screws and pins put in there and the whole deal. SO I;m trying to find ways of working my triceps without being hard on my elbow. So far I have only foudn tricep kickbaks but I don't thing that does the job thoroughly enough.

Anyways it's good to share experiences

Nosebreakers...Skullcrushers..I would stay away from those if you have elbow problems...

Lying Tricep Extensions however..where the weight is brought behind the head...have been working well for me and 0 elbow pain

A little side note i read...doing a couple of curls will help loosen up your elbows and will help alleviate the stress from hitting you tris first.

I have exact same problems. Once I get to higher weight, i can do these at all, and then it messes up my entire tri workout for awhile! I have decided to stay away from them entirely, and stick with pressdowns, close grip bench, rope press downs, and dips once and awhile!! But deffinatly extensions and Skull krushers kill my elbow something fierce!

make sure to warm them up thoroughly too. i always do a couple high rep sets of pressdowns to get loosened up and get the blood flow in there.

Most elbow pain really stems from shoulder dysfunction.

Really? what kinda dysfunction, I have been having alot of rotator problems for along time, and it would be crazy that my elbow hurts cuz of it?? thanks
