What excatly is Anabolic

deathdroprob said:
Yep Im gay, but I dont know what the word means. Tried the dictionary but wasnt there.

Anabolism is the set of metabolic pathways that construct molecules from smaller units. These reactions require energy. One way of categorizing metabolic processes, whether at the cellular, organ or organism level is as 'anabolic' or 'catabolic', which is the opposite. Anabolism is powered by catabolism, where large molecules are broken down into smaller parts and then used up in respiration. Many anabolic processes are powered by adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

Anabolic processes tend toward "building up" organs and tissues. These processes produce growth and differentiation of cells and increase in body size, a process that involves synthesis of complex molecules. Examples of anabolic processes include growth and mineralization of bone and increase of muscle mass.

Endocrinologists have traditionally classified hormones as anabolic or catabolic, depending on which part of metabolism they stimulate. The classic anabolic hormones are the anabolic steroids, which stimulate protein synthesis and muscle growth.

thanks mate, Red meat the most anabolic food

If ur from AUstralia as I'm assuming so from ur flag, buy Kangaroo mince. Just $7 AUS per kilo at coles, similar nutritional profile to beef (high in iron, zinc), but 1.7% fat only, only .4% saturated, and one of the highest natural sources of CLA 22% protein. At $1 per 31-2 grams of protein, that's one of the cheapest lean sources in AUS, cheaper than cheap canned tuna which I had been using a lot.

It taste really good medium-rare to rare also, and only takes 3 minutes to cook. It has become a staple of my diet.

Thats like... So good. So damn cheap, but is there a difference between Steaks and Mince? With Kangaroo and Beef? And how much would you use to get about 30 grams of Protein? about 250g? The old man reckons the Kangaroo steaks are really dear, but this mince you speak of will be in my diet for now on. Thanks man

PS where you from?

Hey, from Adelaide.

The steaks are dear ($13-4 per kilo). The mince is not. I only discovered this this week. I have my concerns whether they are different, however, the packet states "98%" fat free, and the nutritional info says 1.3% fat, 22% protein, 420kj per 100 grams. What's more, like the fat from fish, its good fat, so is useful (wikipedia cites it as the highest known source of CLA). Also, done some research, and every reported figure for kangaroo on the net is 1-2% fat, which is believeable as the animal is certainly lean.

You would need 136 grams to get 30 grams protein, so that would make it 95 cents per serve of protein! Not bad. Goodbye endless tuna for me. It tastes really good. I think I normally eat 150 grams per serve, and maybe more for dinner to avoid any carb craving that may emerge.

As for beef, I think mince would be fattier, as the fat content of beef is highly influenced by the cut. Unless the mince gives the fat content, I avoid. Beef can be as high as 20%+ fat, so I tend to avoid, unless its clearly lean and that packet states it fat content.

sweet man, thanks a shitload for the info. Ive allready planned to buy it on Monday (when the last of my cooked steaks run out).
Adelaide eh? Im from a small town in NSW near Coffs harbour. fo you like Wendy Icon (the Band) their from Ad

With mince, the more the tissue is broken up, the more enzymes are released, and it degrades more quickly.

This is particularly true for turkey and chicken mince.

Some meat will be more robust.

I am always a bit suspicious of mince, as I do think it is used to 'hide' things that are not muscle tissue.

This may not be true, and just me being a bit squeemish about some meat after being a veggie for over 10 years (I am not anymore though).

thanks sim882 for the sweet info, I got that roo mince from Coles, $6.99 in a yellow 1kg packet. I made the mince into 7 rissoles with 1 egg garlic flakes pepper and breadcrums. Its hard to believe Im getting 30+ grams of Protein from somthing half the size of my fist, sure is tasty though.

Glad you like it - it tastes almost too good to be true - a sweet taste.

Beware - I think my farts and breath are now starting to smell of Kangaroo, but I have been having 400grams per day. The novelty will probably wear off soon, and I will probably go down to 200. No one has commented on my "Kangaroo odor" so I guess it cannot be too bad
