What exactly does T3 do?

Cytomel is the most common synthetic version of the T3 or triiodothyronine. T3 is not produced directly by the thyroid gland but by the thyroid-stimulating hormone or THS. THS is also responsible for the production of T4 or thyroxine.

Drugs with thyroid hormone activity, such as Cytomel, are used for the treatment of obesity since they are effective fat-burning agents.
Cytomel exerts its fat-burning ability via the following metabolic pathways and processes.

I would want to hear why you are interested in this as opposed to something else. I think it is good stuff but I really understand the power of dieting.
I'm real big on running keto diets. They work really well but can be complex.

not to be a stickler but thyroid stimulating hormone is TSH (it actually stands for thyroid stim hormone) not THS =) it is a peptide hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary. When I was in college I paid close attention during bio biochem and organic chem haha. otherwise good info!

see, i'm not wearing my glasses again!

TSH tells the thyroid to produce more t4 and yes the thyroid does produce a small amount of t3 as well. But most happens at cell level where t4 converts to active t3.
