What does the future hold for mother earth?

Some co-workers and I were discussing this the other day, and I thought I'd get your input.

With all the species becoming extinct, using up all of our natural resources(trees, oil, ore, etc.), pollution, global warming, diseases and so on. How long do you think we can go on at this rate? When will the earth die and become inhabitable?

The fact that you would quote that piece of shit movie implies you need to turn over your elite moderator status to me asap.

Planet of the Apes was good.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes, the movie from where that quote originates, instills murderous feelings in me.

It matters not. I am on my way into infamy.

Whats that? You want this to be a negative karma thread?

You give me green I give you red. Oh wait, you probably can't give green. I'll give ya red when I can.

Its hard to say, since most of your assertions are incorrect.

"All" of our species are not becoming extinct. Ever heard of the dinosaurs? Any living today?

We are not using up all of our trees or minerals and the best example of this is cost of these items. Is the cost of lumber increasing? No. Is the cost of minerals such as copper, nickel, etc. increasing? No. If these items were dwindling in quantity, then the law of supply and demand would kick in and they would become more valuable than gold or diamonds. And minerals can't really be used up, since they are recyclable.

Pollution is decreasing, in Western countries, with the increase in environmentally friendly technologies, and there is no reason to believe that this will stop.

Global warming is an observable phenomenon that has as of yet no real explanation, especially no single explanation. And there is no reason to assume that it will be continuous. Many climatological phenomenon have been documented, the earth is dynamic.

Diseases have been and will be here forever. We witness two essentially minor viruses, West Nile virus and SARS, which kill negligible amounts of victims and we scream its the end of the world. What would you have done if you lived in the Dark Ages when the bubonic plague devastated Europe.?

My geology professor said the same thing. The earth is capable of undergoing rapid climate changes in a matter of decades. Global warming might not be our fault after all.

I am destined for great wealth. I will sieze the asteroid belt and defend it like a Bushbarian.

The minerals are almost infinite. I am designing the technology to get the minerals safely on the earth. I am so far ahead of you fools that it is tragic.

Probably the earth will not become inhabitable. I think all and every single problem of humankind is over population. While every specie keep his balance with nature, humans wants to live every day more and not letting anybody die. It is like a cancer on a planet. I'm pretty sure that we are close to a world war several times more devastating than old world wars. In this world will be massive destruction, and propably, or better should be die at least one third of total world population. Only in that way, after the holocaust the strongest, intelligent and better adapted will survive and re create civilization in a better way. It will be difficult to live again in a different world.

I don't give more than 50 years to actual humankind. That's a reasonable time and the government has his own calculations.

we will exhaust all our natural resources and unless science can progress fast enough to be sufficiently efficient to sustain life, then there'll be violence over the natural resources that are left (ie water, fuel, etc).

with the increasing population, there'll be more oppurtunity for super-viruses and diseases to develop and mutate and eventually take a good chunk of us out.

but we'll probably be all dead by the time any of this comes to fruition.
