What do you HATE about the holidays?

I hate a lot about this time of the year.

here's a quick rundown of what pisses me off.


#1. It always happens.. running into "friends" who you aren't really friends with. This happens all the time, and I have to rehash the same old bullshit and answer the "nice to see man.. so what are you doing, whats going on in life.." BS. Fuck that. If you were my friend we'd never be making small talk asking about 'what i'm doing', you'd already fucking know.

#2. Traffic.

#3. Snow and cleaning off my car. Also shitty driving.

#4. Christmas Music. It fucking sucks. I've heard the same Bing Crosby songs every year since I was born.. atleast put out something new.

#5. Being broke. I actually like gift giving, but that shit takes a toll on my checkbook.

#6. Shopping/Crowds. I hate shopping, even for myself. Throw in massive crowds and I wanna kill someone.

There is BS in my family as well, but we only get together like this once a yr and I'm very grateful for my family. I do dislike the tension b/c my sister is in town for a whole week, but I like her for the first 12 hrs anyway ;-)

I dont really have a problem at all about the holidays except for maybe i'm a little more busy as usual trying to get around to see everyone in a matter of a few days.

I dont really HATE anything about the holidays. I like the crowds .

Since I get a little wierd about food any time of year, much less the holidays, all the parties can be a little stressful, but I just pop some diretics and hope for the best and eat as little as possible without passing anything really good up.

Traffic for me too... seems to bring out stupid drivers as well. Also, this year I hate it that I don't get to spend it with my family.

1) I find the materialism sickening, it's a glut.

2) The reiteration of the happy times of family get-togethers when anyone who has ever actually GONE to a family gathering knows that it ALWAYS ends up with at least one person drunk, several other people FURIOUS with each other and no less than one adult crying.

3) People who have NO business in a car will decide, under the most CATASTROPHIC weather conditions, that they simply MUST go to the mall RIGHT NOW.

4) The more serious you are about wanting the holidays to turn out really well, the worse the outcome will be.

5) You miss people who have died 100% more.

all of the above especially the driving....so much anxiety going on, it seems like everyone is on the edge. I dont know why but this year doesnt really feel like xmas to me.

My husband's side of the family I couldnt possibly love any more ....and I actually have almost a better time with his side than mine!

And the gift giving is really the GIVING part.

I'm so excited about giving my (hopefully soon to be brother in law) this stupid beer pong sign that I got on ebay. Its a dumb gift I know, but I know he will like it and I cant wait to give it to him!! That part is really fun, and what I look forward to during the holidays.....

I do my gift buying and thinking about it throughout the year
clip articles from periodicles etc. and save them to buy gifts
i.e. earlier this year the wall street journal had a review of electric knife sharpeners
most everybody can use one of those as they have only really come out recently

What's wrong with a negative thread? What's wrong with venting your spleen a little, seems to me that's the whole point of this thread, that people like to know they're not the only ones who aren't exactly bursting with warm fuzzies.

There are enough of us for whom the holidays can't pass quickly enough. It's been my observation that in dysfunctional families the holidays just provide the outlet for someone to unload on someone else.

My husband, like SoKlu, has worked in retail for 30+ years, he's been feeling disgusted with holidays for years. If you have Christmas rammed down your throat 40+ hours a week beginning mid October, you're pretty fucking sick of it come December 25. It's like the world's longest foreplay with the worlds worst orgasm, because there is just NO way one day of presents, meals, or whatever is going to give you sufficient pay off, all you can feel is let down.

As for your K message, I don't appreciate the assumption that I'm unhappy because I hate the bullshit of a consumer driven society.

IMO, if you truly love people, you don't need some bullshit holiday (which Christmas is, it's just a perversion of Christianity made palatable for Pagans), to give them a gift. If you truly want someone's company you don't need some horseshit reason to share a meal with them.

Gotta agree with Musclemom - I miss my mother (died 12/7), grandmother (died 12/18) and father (died 12/24) who are all passed now - the anniversary of their deaths is sad enough, but the month of Christmas is just a killer.

I can't stand the commercialism & don't "get" why I have to bust my ass going to a crowded mall to bitch at some poor sap working at the stores to spend too much money on an ugly purple sweater that the recipient won't want or like anyway. If I want more crap, I'll buy it myself, same goes for everyone else.

Once was one of the most hated holidays for years by me!
I hate the fake face greetings by people who the rest of the year will go out of their way to fuck someone else over, and now they're acting nice?!!
Family get-together s where it starts off well enough but some half baked individual can't keep the yap shut and starts some shit.
I hate the pushy bitches with shopping carts & minivans.
I hate the company "Christmas Party" where you are expected to show up and spend your free time with the very worthless peeps you loathe. And on that subject how about the drunk office chick who starts shit with everyones wives? WTF? Does she find herself entertaining? Why are women unable to let shit slide?
I hate when your at a "Christmas Party" and you're checking out the bolt-ons on the slut in the revealing dress and her dumb ass tries to be her hero by starting shit.
I hate the fact that the non-driving mother fuckers are all out on the road in a panic. They shouldn't be on the road at all!
I hate that The Generators Christmas song doesn't get more air play.

Only in the last few have I started liking it again and it's because of the excitement I see in my kids. I'm still not sure it counters my list though.
