I work nights and when I get home i'm hingry cause my last meal of the night is usually around 1-2am. I get home and i'm hungry. I want to eat something that will satify me and not have a tendency to be stored as fat. I usually have an egg and cheese burrito. About 300 cal, 20grams protein, 35 grams carbs, about 9 grams fat. Is this too many carbs before sleeping?

yeah too many carbs. Not going to burn them so theyre just gonna turn into negatives for your body :worried: .

try just eating some boiled egg whites. Fast, easy, not much clean-up. :) Perfect for late night.

That "Sounds" good. I am in the same situation since I switched to the 1500-2300 hour shift at the hospital.
I loved that shift when I was working 8 hr days. Perfect for lifting and getting stuff done in general. Now that I'm working 7p-7a, everything has to be on a schedule. But at least it's only 3 days a week.

I like a scoop or two of ANPB or a few Tyson Tequila Lime Chicken Wings. In fact, I just ate some, they were finger lickin good :chomp:

I like to have some cottage cheese, about one cup, with some sliced cherry tomatoes, and lemon juice. Yum. Oh, and sometimes a spoon of anpb.

Protein and fats are what you should be eating before bed.

I have a casinate protein shake and a tbsp of peanut butter.

yep

sometimes I'll have

cottage cheese + ANPB
cottage cheese + flax
egg whites + cheese
egg whites + ANPB
egg whties + flax
salmon (already loaded with *good* fats, or EFA's)
chicken + cheese
casseinate + flax
casseinate + ANPB

chocolate carb countdown + casseinate + 1 tbs of ANPB is my favorite :p

Alot of good ideas here. I tried a scoop of whey and cottage cheese last time I came home from work and that satisfied me pretty well. A few of you are suggesting ANPB (fats) before bed. Is there a benefit to this compared to no fats before bed? While dieting that is.

not just when dieting, anytime

you are going to go to sleep, you're going to be lying and not doing much physical activity for 6-8 hours (I say not much because some of you might be sleepwalkers, jumper, kickers, etc...). If you eat carbs, most of it will be stored as fat because your body doesn't need it as a source of energy (because you're sleeping). Fats help slow down the digestion of protein so that your body has a nice steady supply through out the night (or whatever time you sleep). Your body will use the protein, fats, glycogen (stored "energy" source) and stored fat as energy to keep you alive and your body functioning while you sleep. By the time you wake up, your body is pretty much drained of "energy," this is when you want some carbs. Not eating before going to sleep will make your body use up muscle as an energy source, so don't go to sleep hungry.

Got it, i'll start making it a whey drink with ANPB and see how that works for me.

if your metabolism slows down so much while your sleeping, then shouldn't you avoid eating anything right before bed? Shouldn't you keep it to 3 hours before you actually go to sleep or is eating some protein and good fats right before you sleep going to help with your diet?

make that caseinate protein (protein powder from egg whiteand/or milk) as it is slow absorbing and much better suited for meal repalcement. Whey is fast absorbing and should really only be used post work out. Otherwise, most of the protein hits your system too quick and your body stores it as fat. It is better than nothign though, if you don't have caseinate right now.
