DEAD MAN WALKING!!!!!

Anion gap is the difference (or gap) between select positively charged chemicals (Sodium and pottassium) and negatively charged ones (Chloride and bicarbonate). Increased anion gap is due to increased metabolic acids such as diabetic keotacidosis, fasting and starvation, lactic acidosis, alcohol poisoning etc. Low anion gap is associated with low sodium, and bromide ingestion.

B/C ratio _ which is the BUN/creatinine ratio. If it is low it is usually due to overhydration, and too little protein.

Creatine is a by product of the breakdown of muscle creatine phosphate from energy metabolism. It is removed by the kidneys from the body. Therefore it is considered a kidney marker. Hi creatinine is primarily an indication of impaired kidney function. It can also indicate obstruction of the urinary tract (can't piss), muscle disease and dhydration. The fact this is high and your BUN/Creatinine is low is sort of contradictory.

ALT ( otherwise known as SGPT) is primarily a liver enzyme although small amounts are found in heart, muscle and kidney. if it is high it can indicate extrahepatic liver obstruction, a hypermetabolic liver, or muscle trauma.

numbers

creatine 1.5
alt 81 low for me
anion gap 3
b/c ratio 9.3

Liver enzymes are elevated (alt). However you cannot say how severely the liver is stressed based on the blood numbers - 160 is not necessarily twice as bad as 80. Need some other tests - most specifically liver ultrasound. 81 is really not all that bad necessarily.

Based on creatinine alone your kidneys are not doing too good. In my internal medicine I learned that for creatinine to elevate at all your kidneys have to stop filtering properly to a large degree. I would have to look the exact numbers up. But the nice thing is the kidneys can recover to a large degree.

Whats your blood pressure. Nose bleed can be a sign of high blood pressure, and kidney involvement can cause hypertension. In fact other than the diagnosis of "essential hypertension (unknown cause)" , hypertension caused by the kidneys is the most frequent cause of hypertension.

I was just kidding about the deadman walking. The values are not in and of themselves ass that severe. They do indicate something with the kidneys and some hypermetabolic condition of the liver. Go see your MD, don't stress too much, and just do the follow up tests he/she recommends. The blood tests are rarely diagnostic, but are instead mostly screening tools. You will need some other tests to determine extent and type of problem. Some people have levels much much much higher than yours and it turns out to be nothing except the after effects of a cycle and /orhard training, and clears up fast after stopping the cycle and/or extreme training. Serious weight lifting puts considerable strain on the body - when you are doing deads and squats and the like. A week on a low protein, high carb diet and no training and the results could be dramatically different.

thanks, just spent 4 days in the hospital again with another pancreas attack. my magnesium was alos low and I was given a drip of it. kidneys have always been a concern and i have hep c though it's non reactive meaning i can't give or or get it just been exposed and my body fought if off.

am down now 15 pounds. my doc was gone all week so i saw hospital docs a watse of time as they don't know me and only read my history. my doc will see me this friday for something he is concerend about and will go from there.
