i always stick with black.....what other colors would work?

I would think black shoes only, anything else would not go. Just my opinion though.

Black pants always goes well with black shoes.

However, if you are more stylish then beige (s/p) or leather dark brown goes well too.

yea, and the shoes have to be just right, its a very hard thing to pull of but looks good if done well.

Yes blacks are timeless, but as I said beige, browns, reddish brown leather go excellent with a black theme-dress (black pants, black suit, perhaps a low key toned colour shirt) will look MORE stylish. People will notice the sophisticated cut & contrast of the shoe colour with the rest of you.

White would contrast too much making you look ridiculous with a pair of black pants.

The most important is that the shoes match the belt.

I would stay with a dark brown or even a burgundy (mistakenly called "Cordovan" by some makers).

You'll never g wrong with black tho
