What certs do Personal Trainers need?

What schooling or certifications do personal trainers usually have? Assuming you are getting training from a place like a country club or gym. whats the difference between NFPT & AFTA?

usually pts just have any old certification just to say they have one, for liability purposes its better to have a piece of paper the says you know what your doing(even though most dont). there are some trainers who take it to the next level, and get a C.S.C.S. from nsca, it probably carries more weight than any other cert in the buisness. mostly becuase it takes a degree, and an extensive test to get the credentials. pwrmachine would know about this, i beleive he has his cscs.

drivers license and you can start training pretty much anywhere...u just need one of those "trainer" shirts, usually a size too small, and you are good to go.

I'm studying for my CSCS right now. It's a strength coach certification, so it focuses more on athletes than on "regular" people. NSCA also has a personal training certification which doesn't require a bachelor's degree.

Working on my nesta right now. Still in college so nsca is out for now.
