Yeah... This is the part that has always fucked me up. Even following the FAQ for various torrent managers I still manage to fuck it up.

It'll work without it but in general you will get shitty speeds. Works better for some than others depending on how your router is set up, but in general to get blazing speed on torrents you have to open the ports or place your computer in the DMZ or plug your computer directly into the modem.

You are one of the lucky ones that either has a router that is set up in a way that allows it to work without special settings or you are plugged right into your cable/dsl modem and just think "the little boxy thing with lights" is a router. For just about everyone else, the speeds will be shitty.
