what causes a urinary tract infection?

what are the symptoms in a male? could a heat stroke and dehydration bring one on?....can women pass them on to men? ( i would figure, most likely-yes) thanks.... :worried:

It's caused by bacteria. I don't think it could be caused by heat stroke/dehydration, although heat surely helps bacteria grow.

At least in women, you feel like you have to pee very very often, and when you do barely anything comes out and sometimes you get a burning sensation.

Try drinking some cranberry juice, which is very acidic and will help kill the bacteria. (Ocean Spray makes a low-cal, low-carb version), and/or drink plenty of water to help clear up the bacteria as well. You can see a doctor for some prescription treatment, but water and lots of cranberry juice usually clear it up in a day or two. (Obviously if it persists longer than that, see a doc.)

thanks ladies, this sounds like what is going on...i pray this is not a pre-diabetic symptom....i had a day or two, that i could not get enough water...the more i drank, the more i expelled....which follows suit for being dehydrated...i suffered a mild heat stroke about 10 days ago, while riding my motorcycle...it was about 110* out, and i was in full leathers....it took days to recover- hydrate...my job sometimes does not allow me to use the restroom when needed....you have to hold it for long periods of time, i know this is not good either....i would assume- doing this and being dehydrated- pissing dark orange- might bring this on...i feel good otherwise....any other comments, please fire away....thanks again....

Yeah the dark orange color is sometimes another sign of a UTI. Could have been brought on just by bacteria from being in leather in 110 degrees.

cranberry juice is not the best idea, unless its sugar free. E. coli (the most common pathogen for UTI) actually thrive on sugar. Take cranberry juice extract in pill form. To get the same effects from the actual juice, you would need to drink about 2-3 gallons a day

Hence the reason why I mentioned the Ocean Spray low cal/low carb kind (tastes better than regular crap anyway).

ok...today searching for tablets....iam assuming with these tabs, not to be driving long distances?.....

you shouldnt be running to the bathroom that often, because the pills are concentrated minus all the fluid intake you get with the juice. But you should still consume a lot of water to help flush it out...good luck!

ive taken 2 tabs today @ 1200mg each...they did not make me......void, my bladder...i also got the juice...have had 2 glasses @ 16 oz...the juice makes me go, but not like i thought...doing better, but i think i need to continue this protocol...also added some Colloidal Silver to rid bacteria...any scoop on this stuff? Ive heard it works well, but was told to supplement yogurt to replace good bacteria...brunette????

ok...went to the doc today...confirmed UTI...he said slight infection and that i had almost cleared it up...put me on CIPRO @ 500mgs 2X per day for 7 days...he said i probably would have kicked it by myself- told me i did a good job in cleaning it up....so my orginal post was a good protocol for dealing with this issue...thanks guys for your input and help!!!
