a blood test and the swab was what they gave me and they said it covered everything except HIV

Depending on what they need to test for... swab, blood, and piss can all be used. I had a buddy who had just the pee test and turns out he had the clap. Gave it to his wife as well. Still doesn't stop him from sleeping around.

Herpes (both strains) won't show up on a standard blood test. Only the anti-bodies can be detected and most clinics don't look for them anyway since type-1 herpes is so common. On the plus side (well, there's not really a plus side) it's easy to tell when/if you have the desease as the sympoms are quite severe.

Other common STDs can be detected though regular blood testing. A swab/culture is usually only taken if there are overt symptoms present.

The swab's a bitch, but it will cover most of what they'll be looking for. If you think it may be herpes you'll have to wait until an outbreak.

the new girl just wants me to get it done for piece of mind,I have no symptoms of anything its just to be safe because I know some things dont show symptoms. so if I have none how would they test me?

I had a pimple looking thing on my leg a month ago by my balls but I dont think its herpes as I occasionally get a pimple because my legs rub and have had this on and off since before I was sexually active

You can also get an oral swab done if you want an HIV test and aren't having blood taken.

HIV im not to worried about at the time,if I dont get blood done for the other stuff Ill just wait till I come off this cycle and get that done then

blood and urine is fine. urine tests for infections.. blood for HIV... forget that swab.. only do that if you come in with a specific complain (E.g. you see of feel shit on your cock and balls.)
