Wes Welker man crush

Let's have some love for Wes Welker.

I am becoming a Pats fan because of this guy. He is 5'8" - 180 pounds.

Nobody wanted him in college but he ended up getting a scholorship the day after signing day because someone else backed out and ended up setting the NCAA record in punt returns for touchdowns.

He does not get drafted - goes to free agent for Dolphins. Makes the team. One game he had to fill in as kicker and kicked a field goal. Miami does not pick up his contract

Now he has Brady tossing him the ball all over the place.

he was the tolken white guy in miami that came out of no where, always contributed though.i loved making fun of that guy and the dolphins in general

he fits in perfectly with the pats though

He runs precision routes. Now he is teamed up with a precision passer, they will slice it up.

he's a hard worker and a great talent that is for sure.

having brady throwing to him doesn't hurt either.

defenses can stop wes welker.

the problem is they have to double and triple cover randy moss and still worry about stallworth, welker and watson when he's in there.

that whole team is just so freakin solid. front 7, secondary, o-line, enough of a running game

i wouldn't mind if someone came in speared tom brady in his side and took him out for his entire career.. shut all these obnoxious pats fans the fuck up..

I think Mr Johnson has it right - somebody has to get some pressure on Brady or he is going to pick apart the rest of the league.

I was impressed with the guy against the Cowboys. Quick feet, very tough for his size, was breaking tackles and making people miss.. Looks can be deceiving. Probably a long stronger than he appears.. Reminds me some of James Brooks who played for the Bengals in the 80's. 180 lb running back that would knock linebackers on their ass... He could bench 225x17 and that was very good then.

I am sure some defensive coordinators in this league would be willing to take a few 15 yd penalties for some wicked late shots on brady to try to end his season/career. helmet to helmet from a late blitzing free safety t the side of Tom's dome should do the trick nicely.

Why the Brady hate guys?? The dude can flat out play. A surgical, assassin at quarterback.

lol@bitter bears fans

WW is fast, strong and fearless. Dude goes across the middle with a chip on his shoulder. And did you see some of his blocks yesterday? He laid some people out!

The receivers are dangerous. The bigger problem is that Tom Brady is given all day long to throw the ball.

Someone needs to plant him on his head.
Then check his QB rating...

Brady's line hasn't gotten any better or worse in the last 3 years. Actually a lot of the big name starters that were on his O line are gone. He's shown that he isn't afraid to take a hit. Any QB who is up 40+ points in the 4th quarter, yet still QB sneaks it into a pile of 10 linemen is a tough mother fucker to me.

he doesn't really take hits though, especially with the newer QB related hit rules.
that's partially because he knows when the blitz is coming and almost always gets the ball out of there, and of course...he knows how to move around in the pocket.

one thing belichick ALWAYS has though, is a strong o line, whether big names or not. he's know its part of the foundation for a good team. in a sense, similar to denver's philosophy (only for the fact their offensive line is alwyas badass, though they use that zone blocking scheme)

same reason mangini and tannenbaum spent their first round picks on premier lineman when they went to the jets (belichick/parcells system). Romeo tried doing the same in cleveland, but their o line got killed by injuries the past couple of years. now cleveland has a good line, a quarterback that can throw the ball and they're winning games

I've watched every Patriots game since he started. Believe me, he take hits.

He takes plenty of hits, and a lot of his best passes are right before he gets leveled by a blitzer.

If anyone wants to see how great of a player Wes is, get the game tape of his last college game against Texas A&M. He went up against all A&M's big blue chip recruits and finished the day with 370 all purpose yards including a punt return at the end for the winning touchdown.

The guy is a winner.

welker works the slot

aka linebackers and roaming safeties cover him

kevin curtis would have the same numbers

You see SF getting 10 points in Seattle next week? wtf

More props for my man Wes - keeping in mind again that he is 5' 8" and 180 lbs

WELKER ON THE BLOCK: When the Pats open up the playoffs next weekend, here’s a fun side game to play – watch Wes Welker block downfield. He throws his body into that with the same gusto he hauls in receptions. On a failed swing pass to Ben Watson in the first quarter (Watson dropped a catchable throw), Welker had already tossed safety James Butler to the turf.

Later, on Laurence Maroney’s first touchdown run, Welker didn’t just block Butler – he pancaked him. It was an impressive display of determination by one of the smallest players on the field. It looked like something out of the WWF, with Welker lifting Butler off the turf before slamming him down.

“It was just a play where they had the safety down there and he came in to fill the run and I was coming down to get a helmet on him,” Welker said. “Just doing my job, trying to give Laurence something to run off of.”

Welker noted that Butler saw him coming. Regardless, he should have been ready to get hit.

“If they watch film, they know I’ve pretty much blocked the same way every game,” Welker said. “If people aren’t expecting that from me, then that’s an advantage for me.”

Maroney saluted Welker’s work.

“That’s one of the scrappiest little big guys I know,” Maroney said.

Welker’s blocking ability has been on display all season, though it’s an unsung skill. It’s a simple matter of math – when the Patriots go four wide, they’re taking either a fullback or tight off the field, which means the receivers have to block, and Welker’s been doing the job.

Some more props from my man-midget

The All-Unwanted All-Pros team (undrafted players)

Runner-up: Wide Receiver Wes Welker, New England. No team drafted Welker despite his having 259 college receptions and leaving Texas Tech as the NCAA's all-time punt return leader. And he scored 90 touchdowns in high school! Maybe these were clues that he's good. Undrafted, Welker went to the San Diego rookie camp and was waived. Gradually, he worked his way into the Miami starting lineup, and he performed very well for below-average Marine Mammals teams with quarterback problems. When Belichick came knocking, offering a second-round draft choice for Welker, canny, crafty, cagey coach Cameron took the deal. Advice to all one-and-done coaches -- when Belichick makes you a sly offer, maybe there's a reason!
This season, Welker had 112 receptions for 1,175 yards and eight touchdowns; when teams shut down Moss, Welker drove them crazy with catch after catch. Plus, Welker is one of the best blockers among NFL receivers. Watch Patriots tape -- Welker not only blocks well but is always hustling to get a block, in situations where the Chad Johnsons of the league often stand around and watch.

No man - I am actually a Cowboys fan but have been watching Wes since college when he was racking up 300 yrds a game against all american defensive back from OU, UT and Texas A&M.

Goes to show you that you can not draft off of size and speed alone.

You know he has to be pinching himself when he is sitting at home watching Sportscenter like he probably always has and sees himself in the highlights.

Thats exactly why Brady and Welker are so good! Every team says the same thing, they are going to pressure Brady blah blah blah, then the Pats pick it up and throw short hitters to Welker until you give up and stop blitzing.
