Weighted Dips - What's your set up?

Some use chains on weight belts...

Just curious on how many variations are out there.

Post what your "contraption" is and its positives and negatives :coffee:

I use a basic leather and chain dip belt. I don't really have much to say about it other than that it gets the job done. You can get leather/fabric and chain dip belts from a ton of sites for ~$25, although the one Tweakle posted looks really comfortable if you want to spend the extra cash (or if you need it to dip crazy amounts of weight like him).

I used to use a rope, thread it a few times around my belt and the plates so that they would hang like a metal loin cloth. The only minus I can think of was that the leather on my belt got pulled into my lower back causing minor discomfort.

I use a regular chain belt, but instead of using plates I use dumbells, you wrap the chain around one side of the dumbell and it holds in place quite nicely, it makes it much easier to do when you get up there in weight....doing them with 3 45 lb plates is akward but a 130 lb dumbell is much easier

I use a regualr nylon dipping belt with a chain. works good enough for me but I am not using weight anywhere close to what some guys do so maybe I will be in trouble in like 5 years when I dip with 5 45lbs plates.
the belt tweakle posted is more than twice as much in Europe

When I was able to do weighted dips I just used a regular old leather belt with a chain that went down a little past the knees, so when u put a 45 on it it was just a little off the ground, saved my testicles. ive seen people who have a super short chain with the weight smashing into their package.

Be careful! I use a chain that's in the gym. I wrap it around the belt and pass it through the weights. Friday, one of the links sliped and almost took a chunk of my peppie with it. :worried:

It tore the front of my shorts..........close call!!!

whoa... close call is right! Well i'm glad ya came out in one piece bro... to lift another day as a whole man.

I'll have to take out some insurance just for my member if I try to rig up my own contraption. Good call. lol.

lol, just spend a few bucks on a dip belt so you can concentrate on dipping rather than worrying about damage to, um, sensitive areas or losing your "foot grip" when you try to hold a dumbbell.

I will eventually.. maybe next month.

Deff. not going to try to rig one up.... can't afford to loose my left nut, already donated the right to charity :coffee:

jkjkjk :verygood:

Depending on the gym I go to I either grab a dumbbell, cross my ankles & hold it between my calves...unfortunately I'm limited to around 100lbs over my body weight there. In the gym I usually go to they have a machine that allows you to add plates to it. I usually belt myself in and move the lower seat out of the way so I'm essentially in my usual straight up and down position. This setup works pretty well for me.

chains have a couple of disavantages - first, they break. Second the chain can twist and pinch the skin on your inner thighs which hurts like a motherfucker and leaves big red welts that can last for months. The ironmind belt is so much better than anything else I've ever tried and is a peice of cake to put on/take off.

plus if you decide you want to pull a car with it, it should hold up :)

You bastard.... not letting me be cheap, lol

Great points and insight :)... I agree with ponying up and getting something that will last the life of my training career without breaking or snagging my balls :worried:

I'm going to save my allowance and break my little pink piggy bank and go with the Ironmind... already got some of their grippers, quality stuff.

Thanks bros, I gave K to all whom I could on this thread :coffee:

I wish I would have seen that ironmind belt before cause it looks good. I bought the ATP a few months ago and was happy with it until recently. I had to start using plates and then found out that the chain is too short to thread through the plates. On top of that the clip that it came with bent. So today I went by the hardware store and picked up some extra chain and stronger clips. The clip and chain also shred my shirts so now all my shirts look moths got ahold of them. That ironmind belt would have been cheaper considering the extra money I had to spend on this one.

same here with the shirts

i found the most comfortable way was to just use a longer regular lifting belt and wrap it around yourself and a dumbbell, not as much swinging of the weight occurs as with the chain

It doesn't slam you in the beanbag?

:worried:

... sounds risky.

no the dumbbell usually hangs a bit lower and since it doesn't swing there isn't that chance that it could come back and get you
