Weight Training and golf -- conflicting interests?

I'd recommend it, many pros have to work out for their strength to stay at the top of their game, plus it will help increase your longevity for the sport.
 
The idea that weight lifting takes away from most any sport should be left back in the 70's from which it came.

Do not worry. The new muscles will help you gain insight. Insight may help you pick a better game, or even a sport to play in your free time. Worst case you get strong and quit golf. Not a bad days work.
