Anyone know of a good program for a newbie to use to build a webpage? I am looking at having at least 4 pages probably 5 and quite a few links........along with some type of quote form that will be sent to one of a few addresses.

Any thoughts or insight would be great.

dreamweaver

yes. This is like someone doing it for you.

you should get some books and master the RED HAT and Apache servers. Then get a job as a SA.

smalls for $200 I can be close to paying someone else to sit there ass down and construct it.

Couldn't find Home Page Express

What about Eversoft's 1st Page 2000?

they are all the same really - you click on things and they dump the code into a file for you - they are all WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) nowadays -there are likely free ones.

(I still say just use textpad which is free and code it straight, but that's just me)

you like it difficult right ? lol

I work with 50 other engineers here and if doing web page stuff, 99% of us just use TextPad (and a lot do it for the java too).

where I last worked, same way.

for those that know their shit, they use textpad.
for those that don't know, or don't care if they know, then they use a wysiwyg editor.

Difficult? It's HTML... it's not even a programming language.

Better yet, use notepad. It comes with Windows.

I've done some html with notepad as well as some programming using notepad and believe me those software mentionned make it easier. No way I would do it again with notepad.

I don't know dude... I think typing
<table>
<tr>
<td></td>
</tr>
</table>

is much easier than sifting through a million menus, choosing column sizes, and then trying to manipulate a ton of shit when all I want is a big image on the left and some aligned links on the right. WYSIWYGs suck if you ask me. =)

You can get dreamweaver for a 30 day trial, or if you go on morpheus you could get it for a 3000 day trial.

Notepad is fine too, but I don't think a first timer is going to make a nice looking page in notepad. Well they probably wouldn't in dreamweaver either, but there is a higher chance since you can see color combos, position tables exactly, see how your graphics look, etc.

I'm casting my vote for notepad or textpad. Go buy a book and learn how to do it instead of getting some program that you use to draw pictures to create your webpage. You'll need to learn how to write HTML anyways if you want to make minor adjustments.

..and for the love of god, DON'T use frontpage.

If you're used to Microsoft products like Word then get MS FrontPage. You'll get started very quickly and yet be able to add advanced features like feedback forms using their wizards. It comes with a lot of basic graphics, very easy to change color schemes and layouts, add navigation bars, page headers and footers, and frames. (Cheap too)

After you get really used to it and have learned HTML, the next step would be Macromedia HomeSite. But this is more powerful ( i.e. complex) and you have to know what you want before starting. FrontPage is great for prototyping, it's easy to play around to make a demo.

NB the last time I tried shopping around was 2 years ago. DreamWeaver and NetObjects Fusion had too many fiddly little menus to recommend, but who knows they may have improved. HomeSite consistently gets some great reviews, I think it still has the best price/performance ratio.

They need to make a WYSIWYG for C++... those for loops are so confusing!

Learn the program and its alot easier.

If you don’t really care about the code and just want to build it as fast as possible, anything will work... FrontPage, dreamweaver, pagemill. www.homestead.com has a good online web builder that’s easy to use too. It makes it very easy for you to set up your own domain too. In my opinion they are all pretty much the same.

If you want to get into the code try using Homesite( my fav ) or notepad
