Web Developers - Anyone use Drupal?

I wanna put up a site: links to blogs, articles, videos, user comments, blah blah. Put make it easy to dynamically add content, pictures, etc.

I don't have the time to program a full blown asp, mysql, .net whatever website. I wanna use a nice open source easy to create website content management system.

Any suggestions? Drupal looks pretty cool - not sure how easy it is.

Drupal and Joomla aren't terribly difficult if you know web shit. Lynda has tut's out on both cms programs if you've got a few hours to spare checking them out.

There is always Word Press as well. From what you've described here, it may suit your purposes too.

If you'd like something a little more noob friendly try Expression Engine.

ExpressionEngine - Publish Your Universe!

EE isn't free, I believe. Other than a trial.

Yeah I got a sub on lynda.com. I've looked at Joomla, but I think Drupal is better. Never heard of Word Press.

looks clean. I have only done web shit for my own site though. I used to host my own website and exchange server when I had comcast internet, I moved though and I am on verizon dsl and they have that shit locked down for home accounts.

My host is m6.net. Very pro, great admin software, stable and cost effective. Run by some smart foreigners.

Looked at both, settled on using Joomla. Didn't take too long to get up to speed. Ton's of extensions and templates available. If you are handy with css, it isn't too hard to modify the templates to your liking. Blog integration is a bit of weak point, but is doable. There is a wordpress mashup for it to make that work.

So you suggest joomla? I can learn either - but want something very customizable, esthetic and customizable.

I would with the caveat that your hosting provider supports it. I'm assuming you are running in a share hosting solution, versus a co-lo. Joomla runs on apache, php, and mysql - on win boxes the permissions can be a pain in the ass if your provider isn't setup to handle the packages. If you have a linux box with shell access, perms aren't an issue. I'm running one of my sites at Brinkster (win servers) - no problems so far.

There is an xammp solution that installs apache, php, and mysql on your local machine - all you have to do is drop the joomla package in to get a feel for how it would work. Takes about 45 minutes to dl, install and have joomla running on your personal box for testing.

You can customize the hell out of Joomla. A little ass pain to get up to speed in the beginning - if you've never used a cms before, but it isn't too bad.

Cool. I'm gonna talk to my host provider and see what they say. Aparently they run php, mysql, iis, .net, everything on the planet.
