web designers......question

What is the best resolution to set your site up at?

Also, how to you make the text stay the same size no matter what the users settings are at? I have noticed a couple sites that won't let you mess with the text size, but I can't figure out how to do it.......Thanks!

:fro:

800x600 is often the best to set it at so everyone can view it. As for the text, there are options in adobe golive as well as macromedia dreamweaver which can control this, if you give me a few i can dig up the actual coding for it :)

It would really depend on the viewers resolution unless you know how to program in asp. Besides that you can use css style sheets yet a person with a 800x600 resolution would see a site bigger than someone who views it at 1280 x 768.

"What is the best resolution to set your site up at?"

I don't really understand that question yet the best size would be no bigger than 750px in width so the viewer does not have a horizontal scroll bar. Resolution all depends on your visitor.

I have my resolution set to 1024 768.

I designed my site with that resolution, so when I view it on other resolutions, its all messed up. I'm not using CSS sheets, but I know that will help alot.

Same with the text size. I have mine at medium, and my site was designed with the medium text size in mind, but obviously people have all sorts of settings---just trying to clean my site up a little

1024x768 is a nice resolution, only problem is people who don't have good monitors (ugh there are alot of people who still don't run beyond 800x600) have to do alot of scrolling around to see things as well as may have a hard time if you are using frames, flash, etc....

i don't have anything of worth to add here. i just wanted to let you know that i work with a bunch of web designers and they're really nice. here's a pic of us all together...i'm in the middle there. i ascended into the trees undetected shortly after this pic was taken.

very true. There's part of me that figures that people with such small monitors are use to it anyhow, and I shouldn't bother redesigning my site. But I really would like to have it look nice on every setting.

hmm the sound quality is kinda poor(referring to the crawling by linkin park) 69muscle, if you had allowed for more loading i think you would be more pleased with the quality.

It was a compromise, I wanted higher quality but the damn page is already over a meg.... I had to sacrifice for the poor modem users as well..

But thanks for the critique. Any other thoughts?

try to spread things out a little on the page, there is alot of empty(dead) space.....look pretty good otherwise :)

why did you choose orange though?

and i see you used swish for the intro :) the text did look familiar.

That's the problem. Do not use small-medium or large fonts. Use numbers like 1 2 3 4 5 or 9px, 10px, 11px. Then they won't fluctuate.

Flash pretty damn amazing. I can do the basics, but always seem to get frustrated when setting up links. I just need to mess with it more....

Your site looks pretty good from what I saw :) I have a 56k modem, so obviously the first page took at least a minute to run smooth....but I defiantly respect the work you put into it! I get excited when I can make a square go from side to side when I'm playing with flash lol

69Muscle,

St Olaf huh? Almost went there myself. My buddy that went to Carlton said you guys got all the hot chicks, they get all the smart ones. HEHE

The most popular resolution is 800x600. Your best option is to use tables and dynamically size the content if you can. You can also check what thier resolution is and redirect them to the appropriate page.

I wouldn't mess with fonts to much. What happens to the person who has a hard time seeing and needs big fonts? What about people like me who want small fonts?

You should design your site to be optimized for a person that is using 800x600 resolution.

Approximately 60% of internet users are at 800x600.
