"Israel is a nation of 6 million people of all religions largely armed and equipt by the USA, BIG DEAL..
It faces an enemy of 300 million armed by Russia, who's the damn underdogs now?.
The great freedoms America enjoys are replicated in Israel, not so in one other single Arab country."
What planet are you on? Israel is a theocracy with the official state religion being Judaism. Freedoms and rights in Israel are determined by religion in case you didn't know. And guess what? If you are an Orthodox Jew, you have MORE rights than if you are not Orthodox. And to be an Orthodox Jew, your mother had to be Jewish, so you can't just "convert" to Orthodox in case you didn't know that either. Orthodox Jews are exempt from military service. All other jews are not. If you are not Jewish, you can not even get married in the state of Israel for another example. Other rights, including voting are also affected by your religious status as well. The fact that the Palestinians are largely refugees with a few hold outs still living in Israel proper says something about arab property rights inside of Israel too considering that many are refugees because they were deliberately driven out and their property directly appropriated without any compensation whatsoever by the Israelis.
And as for U.S. made and supplied equipment versus ANCIENT Cold War Era Soviet made equipment.........hmmm......let's see, U.S. stuff is STATE of the ART, Best in the World BY FAR and Soviet Stuff is, well, ah, fifteen to twenty years old and out of date to say the least.....hmmm..........not a very even match IMO and that's if it is still even working as much of it had to be cannibalized for parts to keep other equipment operating.
As for facing an army of 300 million, I would hardly consider that the Arab Moslem nations present anything like a unified front these days either........Jordan hasn't had any stomach for war after 1967 and Syria supplies terrorists to do the dirty work as they didn't do so well either in 1967. Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel and both sides have lived up to their end of the bargain ever since. Iran is too far away to attack Israel with their current capabilities and Lebanon is usually too tied up in internal conflicts to do much either. Turkey is a member of NATO and a secular state and is far more interested in being involved with the EU than being tied in with the unstable countries of the Middle East for very good reasons and Iraq is...........well occupied for the moment.............and of course, our friends, the Saudis, would rather supply money, behind the scenes, to Bin Laden and Al Qaida to destroy things like the World Trade Centers (of course, we aren't supposed to talk about such things because of the close affiliation of the Bush family to Bin Laden and the Saudis and the supposed fact that they are supposed to be our "friends").......so where is the unified army of 300 million opposed to Israel.........looks more like a fight between the highly mechanized and well equipped Israelis and several hundred thousand plus Palestinian refugees armed with home made bombs, sticks and rocks............
So I would have to say that getting U.S. made stuff is a VERY BIG DEAL!!!!!
This is not to take credit away from the brilliant defense of Israel that the Israeli Army orchestrated in 1967 after being attacked. We have to give credit where it is due.
