waxy maize starch and crashing after post workout

i recently switched to using waxy maize starch post workout (70g) from using powderd gaderaide (same 70g).

it could be a co-isendence but after my workouts yesterday and today (been using it since monday) iv crashed like crazy...just getting really tired
 
Waxy maize is a complex carb. Although absorption happens quickly, it does not jack up your insulin and blood sugar like gatorade will. That may be the difference.

so does this make it a less effective post workout drink? should i go back to gaderade?
 
Not necesarily. Waxy will restore glycogen quickly because it gets into the small intestine for absorption faster than anything else and give a mild increase in insulin, maybe not enough of one.


Gatorade jacks insulin too high because of the simple sugars and stores fat too much.


How about mixing a scoop of waxy with gatorade? 30 grams each or whatever the scoop size is. You'll get low and high glycemic carbs. More insulin, but not too much and quickly glycogen replenishment.
 
Try mixing it with more water. One liter of water per 40-50g of wms. That might make a difference.

when exactly are you taking the waxy maize in terms of your workout?

iv been treating it as my post workout shake...

usually immediately after lifting ends, i chug a 5g creatine, 50 g whey, 70g carb shake.

i used to have gadorade as that carb.

i just switched to waxy maize.

was this a poor choice?
 
Drink the waxy and creatine together then wait 15-30 minutes and have the whey shake. Mixing the waxy and whey is likely causing the crash.
 
I tried Waxy Maize before. I personally like the rush from gatorade. So I have been sticking with that.
I drink Xtend BCAAs during my workout and gatorade immediately after. Then 15-20 min later I drink the whey.

When I tried the WM I found that I still felt depleted and I wanted to eat alot after.
Seeing as I have a high enough liquid carb post workout I only eat 2 hrs after as my last meal.
So I didn't want to be hungry for the next 2 hrs. The gatorade doesn't make me hungry.

i normally chug my shake then after about an hour ill have chicken breast with 35g carbs worth of brown rice.

ill try the WMS with creatine right after, then after my drive home chugg my protein and see how that goes.

then ill get my meal in like an hour after i chugg tha protein
 
That sounds like a good plan. WM is pretty light, you can add some crystal light to punch it up a bit. Or try to flood your body with BCAAs with it.
You could use 4 scoops of Xtend.
