Water and diet

I was curious to know the beneifits of drinking a shit load of water
a day. I know its for hydration and what not and health but, what effect does it have on muscle gain? I'm bulking right now
and am not drinking as much as I think I should. Will it make
or break a diet? How much is an adequate amount for a day?
The more the better?
 
Hey Man,

Water is important for so many aspects in your body, and it is crucial for bodybuilders. It's functions are numerous including a medium for transport and a thermoregulator. For a bodybuilder it is especially crucial because of all the protein you are taking in, you need to flush out any urea (by product of protein breakdown) from your kidneys. Off seasons I would drink about 2 gallons per day, and pre comp I would drink about 3 per day. Plus, if you are really restricting calories drink a glass of water before your meal and you won't be as full. Hope this helps bro.

Water is of prime importance during bulking as it is during cutting. Without water, you cannot build muscle. As for fat loss, check out my reply on this thread (I copied my answer below):

Why water is crucial

Well, water does not burn fat per se, but it is of prime importance in metabolizing fat because it because your liver is overloaded when your kidneys don't get enough water. Your liver metabolizes fat, and it can't do that 100% if it is doing the kidneys job. Now, these are some other water benefits:

- Suppresses appetite and aids in proper digestion

- Relieves fluid retention problems. If you don't give your body water, it will hold it so as not to lose it.
That's how important your body water is. Your body will stock up on it and youll look even fatter. Again, water is of prime importance.

-Reduces sodium buildup in the body

-Helps to maintain proper muscle tone.

-Rids the body of waste and toxins

-Relieves constipation

As you can see you cannot overlook the importance of water. I drink 2L minimum per day regardless of the phase (bulk or cut).
