Kathy Bates is mean as hell and not to mention that Hobbling thing she does to him with the block of wood and sledge hammer..ouch

what the woman does to him in the book is even worse. She hobbles him with an axe and then cuaterizes the wound with a propane torch.

Ill have to read the book. Did you know the Sheriff in the movie committed suicide last month. He was 79 years old and lived in New Mexico. He had cancer and said in his note he did not want to deal with the pain. sad

That is sad, but if he was truly terminally ill, I support his choice.

that is a scene to remember, alright. even though the book is worse...my god, what a brilliant build-up. bates is awesome. caan is awesome.

and that scene makes me shudder still. genius.

and yet, when it "starts"...in other words, when she starts talking about the practice of hobbling...and then puts the block of wood between his feet...

jesus, you know what's coming. and he says something like, "whatever you're thinking of doing. please don't do it."

fuck, you can barely contain yourself. and then, after her downswing, she says something like, "god, i love you.", right?

this, my friends, is a horror movie. and it's a modern classic. i get angry when i think of the proliferation of shitty alternatives these days, often crappy remakes of films that should either be left alone or that don't warrant remakes in the first place (the hills have eyes, texas chainsaw massacre, the omen, et al.)

i complain about this once in a while.
