War's already begun....moot point?

The debate on IF we go in is irrelevant. We've been doing strikes over in Iraq for some time now. I don't see how it matters what anyone says of does (especially the UN).

Last I heard, only 3 nations oppose us going in. France, Germany, and Russia. All three have ties to Saddam that makes their motivations suspect.

Let's face it....one of three outcomes are possible that will answer the question, "Is the USA right to do this without the UN?"

1. Saddam uses even 1 WMD that he claimed he never had. Proves we were right and UN inspection teams were wrong....USA is vindicated.

2. Saddam doesn't use any WMD and we find them well-hidden after invading. Proves we were right and UN inspection teams were wrong....USA is vindicated.

3. Saddam doesn't use any WMD and we don't find jack after pretty much tearing Iraq inside-out (we have searching tech the UN teams are not using that would locate underground bunkers very effectively). USA is shown to be wrong and we're likely guilty of unjustified agression on Iraq.

Fact is this....The last UN resolution neither expressly authorized NOR expressly denied the use of force. This was done to appease all members of the UN security council. So, we don't need another resolution to go in. What they want now is a formal UN resolution declaring Iraq in material breach of the prior resolution....making everything nice and official. It isn't needed if the USA honestly feels so strongly in the evidence we claim to have that Iraw is in material breach.

Oh, and that Saddam has not fully cooperated with the UN inspection teams doesn't help matters any. In a way, he's bringing this down on his own head.

Do you think for one second that, in the absence of evidence, some evidence would not be planted? The immorality of our times astonishes me on a daily basis.

Seriously.....sometimes I think a major war may be almost necessary to get everyone back on the ground of reality.

Very good point....

I did think of the potential that the USA would "plant" evidence to prove our righteousness. However, I'd wait to see how much is found.

If we find bunkers full of stuff, it won't be credible to say we put it there. If stuff is used on our boys, it's not credible to say we did it to cover ourselves.

However, if we only find a few bottles of stuff, I'm going to be suspicious myself.

Personally, I am afraid that we would indeed use some stuff on our boys......but not more than several hundred I hope. I don't think we will resort to this measure, Iraq is bound to have loads of illegal shit. I am almost sure that France and Germany padded their books with some WMD sales. It may be them that comes out looking very poorly from this. Hence their resistance.
