War Thread Sticky

I wonder if there is really going to be democracy in Iraq.
65-70% of the Iraqi population is Shiite and loyal to a religious leader in Iran. Democracy in Iraq would end in another fundamentalist state.

(based on a TV interview with Professor Günther Meyer)

Well, if the leader is also religious, then everything might work out, there could be a religious party there, just like the republicans and democrats.

Just heard a report on CNN that the Americans have "killed" some tanks.

Keep that top notch reporting up folks.

I take personal delight when they report that B-52s can launch "Tomahawks"

(they don't...they launch a much bigger cruise missle, the CALCM)

Supposedly , most of the Iraqis the US army is facing currently consists of Shiite conscripts that hate Saddam and are likely to surrender.
The more crucial part of the battle is yet to come.

Iraq tries to get the UN to stop the US

IRAQ WILL ASK SECURITY COUNCIL TO RESPOND TO U.S.-LED ATTACK
Iraq says it will ask the UN Security Council to respond to the US-led war. It is calling the attack an illegal act of aggression by a "terrorist state."

Iraq is also demanding that the US be held accountable before international tribunals for trying to assassinate Saddam Hussein in the first hours of the war.

Iraq's UN mission is urging all countries to strongly condemn the war, and for people around the world to demonstrate against what it calls "colonialism, domination and imperialism."

Iraq's UN ambassador says he doesn't know when he will ask for a Security Council meeting because he needs to talk more with his and other governments.
