Want to break 320 bench

Rotty

New member
Whats up bros. I have been stuck at a 320 bench max for almost 2 years. My bodyweight is approximately 180pds. My normal routine is warmup 135 *15. I start with 225 x 10-12 reps, 275 x 4-6 reps and 315 X 1-2. I have maxed 320. This is all raw and I train chest once a week. I usually hit one body part a day, more of a bodybuilding routine. I have been lifting for several years, and even though 320 may not sound like alot, it is quite a bit considering what I started with. I would ultimately like to press 365 raw. Any info or routines would be highly appreciated. Also, I am looking to compete in the benchpress and I dont know which organization to join. Also, What is a good shirt for someone who has never competed. Thanx.

I train chest once per week. I am presently doing one bodypart a day. My program is geared more towards bodybuilding but that is not my focus. I enjoy lifting one bodypart a day however I would be willing to completely redesign my program to a powerlifting routine. I am interested in increaing my bench press. I am looking into competing in powerlifting competitions.

I think you answered yur own question Rotty. You have been stuck for 2 years so it is definately time to change. read "Big Bad Bench" under Testosterone articles and "Bench Press 600 lbs" also read that..

If you have extra $ to spare a double denim and a bottle of dbol will work wonders too!

You looking to do bench only meets, or full (3 lift) meets?

Hannibal, Cytomel, thanz for the info so far. Cytomel, when you say look under Testosterone Articles for "Big Bad Bench" can you be more specific. I have not been on "elitefitness" for a long time. I have been on other websights. Also I am looking into getting a shirt. I have heard the "Fury" is good. Now do you know any good double denims. Also are they ok to use in USPAL. Hannibal, I want to start off in Bench press competition only. My squat and Deadlift need some major work and before I do that I want to make sure I like competing. What I need is a good bench press routine to break 320 without the shirt and then I would add a shirt later. Thanx

Hannibal. I was referring to the USPAL. Is that what you meant, or is the USAPL a differnt organization. Anyway, I was looking at the USPAL becuase they are geared more towards the drug free, but I am also looking at the APA. I am hoping with a shirt I could hit 365 pounds or so. I like the "Fury" but the double denim sounds good too. What organizations can you use the DDenim for. Thanks for the other links to for some routines. Do you know of any good videos for benchpressing that I should get. I am really focused on this right now and I am going for it. Any ideas on belts also. I am looking at the inzer but I want to make sure I can use it in competition.

Rotty --

Go to www.elitefts.com and basically just read all the articles. It's a few months worth of reading -- but it really pays off in the long run. If you have the extra $$ they have videos for sale on that same site explaining the methods described in the articles. Also you'd do well to check out the Q&A section on elitefts.com where basically any question you can think of has already been answered and archived. Also -- the organization you are thinking of is the same one Hannibal is talking about.... USAPL, known for its drug testing.

Thanks dom, I appreciate it. I am leaning towards the USPAL but I am not sure if 365 for a max with a shirt is competative at a bodyweight of 180. I am in the process of getting a job as a paid firefighter, and I think the USPAL has a firefighter class.

Don't try and max out every week on the bench. Figure out where you miss on your heavy bench attempts. Bottom, middle, or lock-out. Than work on your back, shoulders and triceps accordingly. I also have a Inzer HPHD shirt for sale that would fit you well for just starting out. It's a few posts down by now but you can look if your interested. Good Luck.
