system is slow as hell, and my homepage (google) Is set to some fucked up search site, and everytime i change it back to google, it changes itself back. i try to run norton, but everytime i do, my page file increases until my vitual memory runs out, not matter how high i set it....WTF!!!!! pissing me off

Here's the best way to prevent viruses in the future.

For some inexplicable reason, the anti-virus people do not alert on browser hijackers. You need "anti-spyware" software. I like "Spybot Search-and-Destroy" -- I sent that guy a few bucks because he asked nicely.

I don't have a virus, I'm just hijacking this thread because I have something on my PC that keeps popping up IE windows with ads in them, and Spybot and Adaware have as of yet been unable to remove it.

ad-aware will alert on cookies also, not all of which are harmful.

try panda antivirus...they do an online scan and they remove virus's too...it updates its definitions once a day minimum, its pretty damned good, got rid of trojans on mine. serves me right for not getting a firewall sooner
