Virus contraction risk & anti-body detection intervals

Hi guys,

I have never posted on this particular discussion board, but would like to do so now.
To clarify things, I am not HIV+ nor am I gay, but I have a lot of symphathy for people who are HIV+ and living with it. I have been through the annonymos clinics myself with a few scares, but was very lucky not to contract the virus. Through my experience I have learned a lot about the virus & testing procedures.

When people talk about the virus, many mistake the exposure to contraction, which is not the case. Just because you have been exposed does nto mean you have contracted it. Many factors play a role in the risk, i.e. sores/cuts/open skin, type of body fluid (blood most concentrated) and the exposure time. If anyone has any stats on the probability of contraction please post them..

For example worst case: if you have a sore on your penis, have anal intercourse and blood is present from that person & are engaged for several hours. carries a very high infection rate compared to someone who does not have any openings on their penis and is exposed to vaginal fluids for 30min.

The immune system is another key factor. You can contract the virus but your body could fight it off completely because of low virul concentrations and strong immune system.

Another point is the anti-body detection window. In most places they will tell you to wait 3months last exposure. The truth is that most people will develop anti-bodies within 8 weeks of exposure. The 12 week window is for people with low immune systems.

I just wanted to share some information what I have learned over the years and through my own experiences for educating others.

Peace,
DR. JK
