Violence against women day

theoak01

New member
today at my school there were white ribbons handed out ,but many people including teachers refused to wear them claiming that it is unfair to have a day for women but not for men,id like to get some educated opinions on the matter
personally i believe that women are abused far more often then men so this ay is justified and i wore that ribbon

Sounds like a good day to me.

Agreed. Men have to face violence every day being mugged on the streets and assaulted at work while the women are safe at home cooking and cleaning. It's about damn time we get some equal rights.

no no i think you misunderstood, what im asking is do you think its right to only recognize abuse on women ?

No.

I recognize all abuse, and if violent enough, I sometimes commemorate it with a plaque.

I agree with the teachers. Both Women and men need to be beaten equally when they are stupid! ( Just a joke, please no "wife beater" rebuttals please!);)

last time i checked, 60% of heterosexual D.V. was male on female. 40% was female on male. but 100% of funding goes to female victims. men have no where to turn for help when they are victims. also, women are more likely to use weapons than men.

you also have to take into account that physical violence against defenseless women in heterosexual relationships only composes about 10-15% of romantic abuse. you have emotional, verbal & financial abuse as well. homosexuals abuse one another, dual abuse (where both are abusive, instead of the stereotype that one is abusive & the other isn't).

stop getting info on domestic violence from the 'lifetime' network. they are full of shit.

i support your teacher's decisions.

this is probably true

a whole lot of domestic violence against males gets unreported due to embarrassment

it should have been anti-spousal abuse day. still nothing wrong in wearing it, just think it should include men

I read that the DV cases were roughly equal, men just do not report their cases due to social stigmata.
"Yes, sir. My wife beat my ass. Yes, sir, she is only 5'5 and 120 lbs. But that bat she has is a good equalizer."

not only that, but there is no where they can turn for emotional/financial help.

People, how many times do I have to say I DON'T GIVE OUT BAD KARMA!! Someone is 'impersonating' me.

Please...I don't need any worse karma. Thank you!

No matter what anybody says on this board, I haven't given out bad karma to anyone.

From my experience, women are abused far more severely than men.

I can't quote statistics for you, but I can tell you that some of the things that men do to the women they "love" would turn most people's stomachs.

I have seen a woman that had her face shattered by her husband because she was late coming home from shopping.

I have seen many women put up with abuse that you or I wouldn't even think about enduring, just because their husband was a good provider for her children. They finally leave when he starts hitting the children.

Do women deserve all the help that's out there? HELL YES!!!

Also, most shelters struggle to get money just to pay their bills,
forget about extras. They survive on the kindness of the community.

So if you're looking for a good charity to give to this year, call up your local shelter, they always need help.

BTW.
I don't get my info from Lifetime network. I got mine from 10 years of volunteering at a shelter for women

The reason why domestic abuse against women is recognized is because most men who are being abused would most likely NOT report it...it's far less "acceptable" and might even be made into a joke...which I think is wrong...I'm sure there is a 130 pounder out there in a trailer park in Alabama getting pounded by his 300 pound wife...

Not to make a joke of it but maybe there should be a "Domestic Abuse" day that isn't necesarily specified for any sex...

none of that disproves the idea that women are just as violent towards men.

the fact that no financial & social attention is payed to battered men is probably why you haven't seen any. they have no resources on their side.

Patricia Pearson, author of When She Was Bad: Violent Women and the Myth of Innocence, explains it this way: “When battered women’s activists talk about abuse, they focus on the most extreme statistics, the 3 to 4 percent of domestic violence in which women are beaten severely.”

http://www.batteredmen.com/index.htm

the lifetime network comment was about how 1/100th of abusive relationships (heterosexual, male on female & severe physical violence) is portrayed as 100% of abusive relationships.
