You can use deadly force if you are met with deadly force.

Also, you can shoot a person if they force their way in to your home. (In most states, it's the "make my day" law)

In this case had the poor chap who was getting worked had pulled a gun and shot one of the guys, he probably would have been charged with murder, attempted murder, or at the minimum assault with a deadly weapon. (Again, in the USA)

This is one aspect of american law I agree with.. we should have the right to defend ouir homes in the UK but we don't..

Tony Martin was repeatedly burgled and in the end shot and killed one of 2 burglar.. he got 5 years in the slammer.. the surviving burglar got aid to pursue compensation... everyone was angry about it; everyone was on Martin's side; but the law hasn't changed..
