Video of Katrina....

HumorMe

as filmed by a storm chaser who was in the Mississippi Coast Convention Center between Gulfport and Biloxi. It is 21 minutes long but it includes just about everything from the onset of the rain and intial winds to the intense fury of Katrina and the storm surge. Great footage from start to finish and caught on tape. It plays in Real Player and if worth watching if you have a few minutes to spare.

Here is the main page with some good pictures and his story.

Insane. I'd hate to see a full blown category 5.

For sure. I went through Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and it was harrowing but I wasn't close enough to experience the storm surge. I looks like in that video the surge came up extremely fast.

Insane!

I was out to sea tossing my cookies to Hugo. They thought it was going to hit Norfolk, so we cast off and rode it out there. Nothing like losing the horizon across the bow of a ship with a flight deck 60 ft in the air. Was walking on bulkheads that day.

I just read a 5 page report on the Hurricane Hunter aircraft that was exploring Hugo and they penetrated the eyewall at 1500 feet and lost #3 and #4 engines and wound up trapped inside the eye. The had to dump fuel and circle upwards until they found a spot to exit.

That must have been awful to experience that also on a flight deck too. Ugh!
