Vicodin or Percocet after workout

There are times after a workout when I am physically in pain due to the intensity or the workout. I was wondering if taking either of these medications would have adverse effects on muscle repair or hormone release or any other negative side effect dealing with it?

I mean taking them the same day you workout.

I don't know about their effect on making gains. I do know that they are both heavy duty pain killers, and that being toasted from a hard workout is absolutely not a valid reason to take either of them.

good post. don't take it if you don't need it.

Having seen a very good friend adicted to nubain I can tell you that your mind will do whatever it takes to rationalize taking it once it gets it's claws in and getting clean takes some will (he was also into Percs and used to get scripts for 100 from his Dr. filled at will). I've seen some pretty solid lifters over the years, met a few that have olympic medals, world and national championships. Haven't ever come accross one that needed pain killers from 'intensity'. Certainly from injury getting in the way of their training (this was what got my friend on nubain although he had a list of reasons he cycled through as time went on) but never from the 'shear intensity of a workout'. If muscular trauma is so severe or your CNS is short circuited from a workout that you are experiencing pain - I think something is wrong with your workout methodology or worse, you might have a nerve disorder of some kind so you'd want to get it checked by a doctor.

If that sounds harsh and matter of fact, it's simply because I've seen it in action a lot and it never once has anything but a bad outcome. Something to consider.

Nice post Mc - nice to see you on the boards again.

Sometimes if I know that joint pain (not soreness) is an issue, then I'll take a relaxing bath or maybe have some oral ibuprophen or use voltarol gel. Friend of mine used nubain and he became a very scary man.

if its that bad tone down the workout a little i wouldent take pain killers especially if there that bad i have a problem with my forearms feels like someones cutting me with a knife but i just cut it down a little and its not as bad and like they say "no pain no game"

Thanks for everyones input. Dont get the wrong idea. I can and will put up with the feeling after an intense workout. The reason I brought this up is that at times even though I can stand it without a problem, I would like something to sedate me a bit. Just to take the edge off.

I have played with vics for rec purposes, but never for workout pain. (once when I tore something!) Anyway, I have seen several bb's hooked on Nubain or even Heroin. It all starts with pills. I never drink a drop of alcohol, and have some pretty serious pain from years of injuries. I still never take painkillers to get over my pains. Try to find a way around it, because it will catch up, and stop working eventually. When that happens, you will need them to just feel normal. Not a good thing....

I know and totally understand but believe me. All the guys with problems started off saying exactly that.

Sort of like when a guy posts on the anabolic board and says "so I'm only going to do 1 cycle just to get me to where I want to be a bit faster and then maintain it." To be honest I don't know anyone who isn't mentally unbalanced who started drug use by saying "I'm going to make a serious commitment to this stuff and let it run my life."

Drug use is something you need to be careful with, it has a way of getting inside the mind and distorting it until you don't see clearly.

I agree with the opinions here. Drug use Does distort logical thought. I have seen many friends go from it and know its dark side all too well.
